Some time after partition in India, some volunteered for the Indian Army and others became The Brigade of Ghurkas and part of the British Army. I believe at the time their pay and benefits were supposed to be aligned with those in the Indian Army and it stayed like that for 60 years. It took far too long for these soldiers to be recognised on an equal basis with their British counterparts.
