Have you ever had someone copy you, your style, whether it was the clothes you wore or how you decorated your home?
A few years ago, in High school, HA HA, I had a girlfriend copy all my clothes, which irritated me, I started making my clothes hoping that would be the end of it.
Then she wanted my boyfriend, I let her have him, that was a relief..!!
Now at the young age of 40ish, I have a friend redecorating her home exactly like mine. I like her and we'll always be friends, but get your own style.!!
Some say this is a form a flattery, I've never copied anyone's style.
Anyone else experienced this ??
Patsy
P.S. Maybe she wants my husband?? Yeh, good-luck..

Sigh, Nomad, Cher...what am I going to do with the two of you? It was the Welcome Wagon ladies she wanted...not the wife!!
Patsy....maybe you can go to the friend and say "I see you are redecorating..I got some good ideas when I was redecorating my house, want some suggestions?" THEN maybe steer her into a different direction from your style. Maybe it will be enough that you are giving her ideas, and she will be less apt to want to copy yours. Or not.

My husband is awesome, her washes dishes, vacuums - he's a keeper..
Marie, Oh, I've pointed my friend in the style of my home. I don't see her too often and recently at her house I noticed her kitchen redo,(MINE)..My husband seemed to be more irritated by the coping than me.. My home is very unique - antique store type, very collectable and RED. I love it, apparently she does too..

oops !! Anyway he's a good guy..
What bothers me about my friend and her kitchen redo, we talk all the time and there is never any mention of redorating. She use to have all green decor. When we stopped by she really didn't want me in any further then the living room.
It was awkward to say the least. We talk about everything and theres no mention of redo and shopping etc.. sneaky crap.
My friend in school did the same thing - silent copy B.S..
If they admire / copy, why can't they be open and honest about it?
So they know it's not right and they feel guilt. I didn't expect this to happen as a adult. weird and I don't like it.. obviously.!!!

No Nomad.......I want her husband.....no no nomad
Patsy, it is the highest form of flattery but it is the most irritating form of flattery. We all or most like to be unique. Short of asking her to stop or moving away, I have no ideas to make it stop. She obviously has no taste of her own.

I had a friend who was very popular and liked by just about everyone. The leader of the pack so to speak. It wasn't that I lacked self-confidence or didn't have my own identity, but I just thought Hey, that's someone I really admire so I'm going to model myself on their style. I copied the hairdo and the clothes, but it wasn't well received. In the end after running out of patience, she said you really need to get a new look Krammy

It's not like she went out and bought the same set of pans.
My home is very unique - should be in a magazine, every room has a theme but yet still all blends together. I've used unusual item to display collectables - I've framed sheet music for one whole wall, I use garden rakes to cradle my rolling pins(red handled), I used old yard sticks as a chair rail. I have gingham red check material on my walls, I've made checked lamp shades to match etc..& much more.
We've been friends for @15 yrs., she always called me the queen of crap as a joke due to my stuff. We talk all the time, so when I saw her kitchen with red & white Gingham ck - rolling pins (red) etc..- I was like walking into my home.
I guess what bothers me the most out of this is it was sneaky, no mention of re decorating. Hell she tells me more than I care to know.
It probably wouldn't bother me if she lived 1500 miles away, and used a couple of my ideas, but she's working on everything.
She'll never know it bothers me - I'll never indicate verbally or thru body language that it's irritating, nor will I share other creative ideas. She's a good person, I like her - and I have to look at this as her insecurities. I'm always learning....
So how was this book.??

Patsy, I have to tell you (apologies to those who may have read it
before):
Painters/trucks show up at the house across the street from us,
and proceed to change this pale yellow house with turquoise trim
into a gray house with white trim and maroon gutters. What's
strange about that? IT'S OUR EXACT HOUSE COLOR. ????? When
giving directions to our house, it used to be great to say "It's the
only one on the street with maroon gutters"... guess that's out now!!

Valerie,
That had to irritate you ? So, you fall under the irritated catagory.
Can you imagine walking into a friends home to see your exact unigue kitchen?
I have 40's & 50's appliances, blender, utensils all red, she's trying.
She bought a new red coffee pot, red blender etc., she always had forest green.
And never mention the redo. That's B.S..
I told my sister she said, Oh, God, not again, why does this always happen to you? No one copies me, we laugh..! I realize this happens to everyone at some point, but this is extreme.. Too bad huh ??
Who would appreciate my situation..??? Would this bother you ???
