I figured if I put this in General Chit Chat, that it would be seen by all.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in America. In memory of my beloved mom, I want to remind everyone here regardless of where you live, to get checked out if you are a woman (mammograms at 40 and over! And do those self checks!) and if you are a man to please remind the ladies you care about to get this done. Also, men can get breast cancer too. It's rare but it does happen.
Breast checks and mammograms can actually save your life.
Thanks for listening!

Cancer anywhere is awful. There's no "magic bullet" (roll on the day!) However,
I'm a little surprised there's no "magic indicator".

Hi everyone, i'm so glad that everyone is so much more aware of Breast cancer, my mum was diagnosed with this awful disease 7 years ago, she had the lump removed and had to follow with radiotherapy, she is now on a cancer drug which she'll probably be on for a few more years. 6 years ago when i was 26 i found a lump in my breast, i was refered to the Parapet and they took a biopsy, that had to be one of my longest weekends ever, they phoned me with the results and said that it was non-malignant. I have yearly checks now. Last year i organised a Pink PJ Party in the local pub where i raised £500 for the local Parapet.

My mom had a really agressive tumor in her breast about 8 years ago. She had a modified radical mastectomy. 9 out of the 17 lymph nodes were positive. After the agonising chemo period we all went through, she went on 5 years of tamoxifin. I still have my mummy!:yh_love And yes I joke her ceaslessly about her prosthetic boob. It's great! hehehehehe
On a serious note, to date, she is the lone survivor of a disease that has decimated the women in my family. I have more white roses than pink ones. Just waiting my turn actually. But its funny, my grandmother didnt have it, nor did my aunt, but all my great aunts and my great grandmothers did. Maybe I'll get lucky, but I always check nonetheless. Getting it early is key.
