I was looking at a map today and noticed that in their southern Cornwall locations, The Cardibirds are much closer to France than they are to Chez Krammy ........yeah, they're almost French !

Good opportunist thinking, Hammy, and a brilliant strategy, but...I'm moving myself on Thursday, I'm surrounded by a million cardboard boxes (well, nearly a million), some empty, some still awaiting my instructions....my cat is as neurotic as me because he knows something is afoot, and, in the midst of this I've got to have an emergency dental appointment tomorrow.

(I am just pulling out my last few strands of hair!)

Well, on top of that my removers provided me with smelly packing boxes. I thought it was just more of my neurosis until my son walked in and said, "What's that awful smell?" I then noticed that they were Rodda's clotted cream cartons, so you can imagine the smell...stale cream=vomit. I have had to double wrap everything in kitchen paper and plastic bags as it is going to be stored for two weeks and I don't want to be "blessed" with the stench of sour cream, or sick, for the forseeable future.

I should be used to moving because, with or without children, I've rarely stayed anywhere for more than about 6/8 years but this one feels harder because, after 40 years, I shall no longer be a house owner...ever. So although my decision is the right one, I feel sort of sad at present.

Of course, I could turn this into a positive experience and open up my own parfumerie...with "eau de vomi" as my best seller

Okay, Rap, you did ask!!

Just over four years ago my partner of about eight years found someone else. Not content with just going, he slammed in a claim on my cottage "forgetting" that this wasn't his property and that I had helped him out of debt quite considerably when we first met. He settled for a fairly small amount out of court but the legal fees involved meant that I had to double my mortgage. I had just recovered from that when the funding at the project where I worked was cut and so were my hours...at that time it seemed that everything I touched or planned went wrong. I knew deep down that the gods were trying to tell me that change was imminent but I clung on and clung on...

then I got involved with the man from America and we made great plans about spending the rest of our lives together. I believed that this was the change I had been waiting for. It all went wrong and I lapsed into several months of depression. I realised that I couldn't stay in my job anymore...I felt like the wounded healer, working with people with mental health problems!! So I gave in my notice which meant that I could survive financially here for a few months but that my cottage would have to go eventually, as it has.

I'm moving about 15 miles further up the county and am going to rent a house for a while and see what the gods have in store for me...they and I clearly haven't agreed on the path I should take but it's about time I started listening to them!

it sounds quite depressing but, in reality, it isn't, although I'm constantly whinging to myself and wallowing at present. Deep down I have every confidence that my life will unfold in ways that I could never imagine, and that feels good. I have my visions of what I would like to do but don't voice them too often, just in case they are the opposite of what the gods intend...

The courts are pigs that they can give part of your possessions to this bast%rd and lawyers are blood-sucking leeches!

On the bright side - at least if you rent no one can claim part of your home in future! And any repairs etc. have to be paid for by the landlord!

We rented when we lived in London because only millionaires could afford to buy. Then when we moved 'down south' house prices had shot up so high we simply couldn't afford them. Our rent each month is pretty much what we'd pay for a mortgage - it's just having that downpayment! The house next door sold for £225,000 a few months ago and its just an ordinary house that needed working on! So I doubt we'll ever afford one of our own! However, on the bright side, if anything goes wrong the landlord pays for it. He put in new double-glazing last year. And when the boilers broken down he's fixed it immediately - twice - and at about £500 per time. So it's something you don't have to worry about! Also, people with houses nowadays usually have to sell them to pay for hospital treatment or carehomes when they're older - so if you don't have your own house the government can't take it away from you! Thieving sods that they are!

It's always hard to make a move and yet sometimes we're being told - by the Gods, as you say - that we have to do it. When we moved down from London, so many things were going wrong and although I wanted to move back to this area it seemed a huge step as we'd be leaving friends and family and hubby's job, but we decided to go for it and everything literally just fell into place - as though it was 'meant' to be! And I'm really glad because life is a LOT better down here than in London. So hopefully, if you feel you're being pushed, you'll find it all slots into place for you too!

As a little something to chuckle over - the tearoom next door to my shop was once owned by a French couple. One day Remy pops in to ask something and Sarah who worked for me welcomes him with 'Allo allo' to which he replied 'Oh yes, very droll' Sarah turned a wonderful shade of red whilst I nearly wet myself laughing!!:wah:

(to those across the pond who may not have seen it, Allo Allo was a sitcom about France during the war - hence the unintentional pun!!)
