This is breaking news here.......does anyone else have any further information - perhaps on your local news there?

Small Aircraft Crashes Into N.Y. City Building

NEW YORK -- Broadcast news reports say that a small airplane has crashed into a building in New York City.

Flames could be seen pouring from the building on two floors.

The Federal Aviation Administration told CNN that a small, multi-engine private plane struck the 20-floor residential building at 72nd Street and York Ave.

Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows.

"There's huge pieces of debris falling," said one witness who refused to give her full name. "There's so much falling now, I've got to get away."

Whether anyone was injured was not known, and it was unclear if the crash was an act of terrorism.

The address of the building is 524 E. 72nd Street - a 50-story condominium tower built in 1986 and located nearby Sotheby's Auction House. It has 183 apartments, many of which sell for more than $1 million.

Nothing has been confirmed whether this was intensional or accidential.

This plane would not have to make contact with air traffic control, and was in a designated flying area.

Our news channel here says there is no indication of it being a terrorist attach. They advise ppl to stay away from the area and they say it was a hellicopter.

Looks like fighter planes are over all major cities as a precaution, but it seems like an accident. Let's hope so

A witness who is a pilot himself said - he notice the plane was in trouble and vered to the left when he notice a piece of the plane had fell off and at that point the pilot could not avoid one of the many buildings.

Naturally debris is falling and roads have been shut down/sealed off.

2 confirmed have died from the building.

They just showed the building on the news, it was a small plane. It was probably just a horrible accident.

Now the news is saying all airports confirmed all planes - meaning they don't know where this plane could've come from.

Naturally another plane incident starts/revs up everyone's anxiety

Now news report the plane took off out of New Jersey..

Apparently a unfortunate accident..

We've experienced enough anxiety

Now there will need to be restrictions on flying near these sky scrapers.

Can you imagine living in one of those buildings, watching a small engine plane flying around - in and out of the buildings?

Some of us sit on our front porch and can't stand to have a car drive by fast.

The pilot was Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle.

After 911 - I never thought a plane could fly around/close to buildings, but perhaps some of the airports are very close to these building - does anyone know?

You know what...

I have a fear of flying a little bit....I'm not going to say that I will never fly in my life, because I think its just a small mental hurdle. Something about flying hundreds of feet in the air after only about a hundred years of avaition just doesnt sit well with me....

But one thing is for dam* sure, and thats no one will EVER get me to fly in a small aircraft like that,....EVER.

NEVER

Exactly Patsy. One of the news reports I saw was questioning the exact same thing - how, particularly after 9/11, could an airplane get that close to NYC without someone being aware of it ahead of time.

I've been trying to imagine looking out your window and seeing a plane flying into your building!

Glendora (where this family lives) is near me, so the local news is FULL of the accident. It's a shame, although, from the route they took it appeared they were having a HELLUVA good time sight-seeing.

We need legislation to prevent joy rides over big cities....despite the fact that it would be mind-blowing ecstatic to "fly by" the statue of liberty!
