My hero died. His name was Bob Lassiter. He was a talk show host in Tampa for yrs. He did a national stint in Chicago but it didnt last. He died of complications from diabetes. He was the one that got me hooked on talk radio. He was an ornery son of a bitch and he could growl and scream and scare the **** out of you if you were on the recieving end of his tirades. Mostly though he was a fantastic story teller. Countless times Id sit in the car after arriving home hanging on his words. Id sit there until he took a commercial break because I didnt want to miss a word, then Id run inside and turn the radio on.

He could make you cry like nobodies business too. He was a real force to be reckoned with. I remember more than once calling his show memorizing exactly what I was going to say and when his booming voice called my name Id turn to jello and forget everything. Id stammer and stutter like an idiot.

He was a powerful but genuine man. There was a local caller, Lionel. He was a Tampa attorney and he was about the only one that could give him a run for his money. Bob invited Lionel in one Sat. morning and one thing led to another and Lionel got his own show. God Lassiter hated him. Lionel ended up going national out of New York. Still doing it I think. Anyway my hats off to Bob Lassiter and hell be missed by many. Ya done good Bobby !

I was listening to some archives of his talkshow that people have been gathering at http://www.boblassiterairchecks.com/monologues.html - he's impressive.

Lionel's on here in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. I can't stand to listen to him for too long...he gets my blood boiling! I guess that's what he's supposed to do though. I listen to talk radio a coupla hours a day in my car (long drive to and from work). Sorry to hear about Bob Lassiter.

It is definatly sad when someone who is respected dies.

I am starting to develop an interest in talk radio. Was listening to a talk show the other day, just to get a break from the music. Had forgotten how much I did like listening to it. I am going to have to start listening again. There is one station here which has several good local talk "celebreties".

I'm sorry, Nomad. You may not have known this man personally, but he obviously had a positive effect on you. What an honor to him.

I like your penguins. I cracked up the first time I saw that. :)

I listen to talk radio any time I'm in the car or garage. It's my background noise right now (Bill Bennet's Morning in America). They don't broadcast Bill O'Reilly here in San Antonio, but it's still pretty good. An actual mix of ideas, rather than all conservative all the time.

I don't think I ever heard Lassiter or Lionel, but I've listened to Mike Gallagher. I hope you find a descent substitute to listen to, Nomad.
