What is your"preception" of giving a "Gift-Card' instead of actual shopped for presents for Christmas? Is it uncaring, or wise to let the person pick out what they like themselves? :-3 (Especially with the "after Christmas sales" they get more for the same money?)

(some shopped for presents are returned anyway for whatever reason) :wah:

Every year i give my in-laws who have everything a Stop & Shop $100.00 gift card, so they can buy groceries? I have in the past given them MacDonald Coupons, that is the only restaurant they go to. A hamburger and a coffee, yuk. I think i will get one for my daughter-in law also.

Great idea Paula I never thought of a Food store card, only like Filenes, Pennys, etc. Very practicle, and one size fits all!!!

For the past month I had an infection that went into my leg. So have not been able to get around that much, (but getting better) so Gift Cards seemed like a good idea. One stop, "30" cards! :)

(Oh Ya, I'm a last minute shopper, so this year it did not work out so good for me)

you have to be practical with older people, they really can use the help with buying food....even though my in-laws i believe are safe financially? my father in law will be 80 9/05, she is 10 years younger. To him $100.00 of anything is big deal...

I think your idea will be good for younger people also. I personnaly prefer giving cash or cash coupons as gift during birthday parties, marriage and other celebrations.

Although I love opening up presents (and picking them out :) ), I think a gift card is a great idea. You can be assured that the recipient got exactly what they wanted that way, and what they may need much more than one more sweater or, in my case, one more ceramic cocker spaniel figurine. :-6

I haven't gotten (or given) any gift cards in years, but I many times have

gotten cash, and I really enjoy it. One of my sisters used to do it for my

bday and her friends were amazed she "could get away with that"! When

I thank the person, I mention to them the things I've gotten (Hey sis, I

got a new Teflon frying pan I've been wanting!) so they are happy to hear

it and I'm happy, too!

I don't think gift cards should be looked down upon at all. Some might think

it doesn't show much thought, I think it actually can show MORE.

:)

At Christmas we used to make a big food hamper up for my grandmother, she got about but lived on chocolate, never buying proper food. The hamper made sure she ate, older people watch the pennies, reason for not turning on their heating in winter here and ending up in hospital.

CARS, :driving:

Gift cards are a great gift. We were given gift cards to various shops, and stores at our CHRISTMAS PARTY THIS YEAR.. I got one to BED BATH AND BEYOND..!! There were ones to HOME DEPOT, STARBUCKS, SPORTS ATHORITY, BORDERS, VONS, AND MOVIE PASSES..!! Everyone was very happy with them..

;) I for one love getting them. I really enjoy the movie passes.

I know teenagers love them as well, they can get what they want.

The also have one that is just like a VISA card, that can be used in any store, or shop.

HECK I GOT GIFT CARDS FOR MY NIECES THIS YEAR..!! AND A SMALL GIFT OF A BEAUTY PRODUCT TO GO WITH IT.. :D
