i was just wondering .. how many chores should kids do



any



keep their rooms tidy



clean their plates after meals ... scrape off plate put into dishwasher



put their worn clothes into laundry pile



what is normal if you ask our kids any of the above you are practically acussed of using them as a slave



what do your kids do ..... what is normal.....we have 2 girls that are 10 and a boy that is nearly 12



i dont mind cooking etc but surely its not too much to take a cup out or is it





i really dont know when i was a kid my dad used to work me from early morning to dark on a farm for nothing



our kids get pocket money but do no chores

My kids are going to help with the house cleaning today, yard work tomorrow.

Does my voice sound firm enough?

Shall I try it out on them now?



Kids should help, it is not up to the parent to do it all.

I think kids should do something to help. My step-daughters used to have two chores that they took in turns to do - wash the dishes and feed the goats. For this they got a reasonable amount of pocket money (they were teenagers then) if they didn't do their jobs they didn't get they pocket money.



My daughter who is now 11 has to keep her room tidy and bring down dishes and washing and gets a nominal pocket money for that. She also has to help out a bit more to get credit on her mobile phone but again no help - no money.



Perhaps we are lucky but that seemed to work for our kids or maybe they're just mercenary little darlings!!:sneaky:

My kids also think they are on death's door to have to do a chore. They range in ages from 7 to 13. Kids need to learn that things don't come free in life, you have to work for what you get. Don't work, don't eat - that's the way it is in real life and chores just prepares them for the inevitable. When my kids don't clean their rooms, I don't do it for them they just find that Dad is suddenly broke when they need money for something. Miraculously when the room is clean, Dad comes into a little money the he is able to dole out.

Cleaning their rooms and bathroom is their main chore. We occassionaly have them take out the trash, put the dishes away, set the table or whatever needs to be done in the moment. What almost kills them only makes the stronger. :wah:

Make em work ..or create a rod for your own back i say ...

My 17 yearold is terrible the only thing she does for herself is her own washing ..but then how hard is it to load a washing mashine . She cant even boil an egg (which by the way i find disgusting ) her rooms is a poo hole she'll find every excuse in the book to get out of helping around the house ..god for bid she may need to go into the dishwasher to find clean cutlery - you would think id bought back slavery . No work em hard ..or at least get them to do a little bit

Gosh, who has a dishwasher? I just finished washing the mid-day dishes..........

I don't have kids but if I did I'd sure be tempted to make them do stuff.



Being raised on a ranch (country kids, eh, jimbo) I did just about

everything chore-wise. From a VERY early age... say maybe 8? Fill

the wood box, feed the stock (and they ALWAYS ate before you did

it was just the way!) weed the garden, water the (very large) lawn,

all the appropriate inside stuff, make the bed, etc. and believe it or

not, I actually liked to do ironing, something sort of peaceful and Zen

about taking wrinkles out of my dad's handkerchiefs LOL. Oh and

polish the copper bottom Revere Ware pans my mom had. No

allowance, either. (But I did have my pick of many horses to ride

and entrance fees to shows!!)

your farm sure sounds better than our farm when we were kids i had to shovell tons of pigs er er poo every morning before school i cant ya tell how bad i smelt or how popular that made me with the girls:wah:
