Celebrate the capture of Guy Fawkes, set off ban fires and fireworks, upon later burning an effigy of the guy... :yh_think
Sounds like my kind of shin dig :wah:

I don't mind folk having fun, I enjoy it myself, but it's hellish if you have any pets. We've got maroons and god knows what else going off all round us. One night is OK but it's not any more, they've been going off far a week and now through christmas and new year. Our dog is doped up and now I'm swithering about giving him some wine to try and knock him out.

That's true, gmc. Various people took turns to be in the house with them; one
didn't care, the other was vibrating slightly, and AOL to the extended time that
fireworks are let off - I bet some people will be doing it next w/e because
"everyone was doing it on the 5th.". What did you give your dog? A travel pill?
Booze isn't too good for them, they've 4 legs and they can't handle it too well!

I went to an organised display last night, we all stood around afterwards watching the firemen put out the tree a stray firework had set fire to!

My hubby is a bit stupid with fireworks at times - last year he threw a dud firework on the bonfire, I was not impressed when it went off and shot across the garden. (must point out that the garden is very large and we were all well away from the bonfire - he wouldn't really put anyone at risk)
Then the fire brigade came out 'cos some numpty said our bonfire was out of control - it wasn't.
This year's nice, small bonfire and fireworks that did as they should was lovely!!!:)

So what happened? Did they just go away again?

Yeah pretty much, hubby used to be a retained fireman so he knew some of them so it wasn't a problem. Trouble is garden is on the side of a valley and from some points it looks like the house is on fire!!
Once we had a bonfire in the summer and friends of our kids paniced 'cos they thought we were all trapped in a burning house so not only did we have fire brigade knocking on the door we had loads of stressed teenagers outside!! Bless them.

I built the bonfire pictured earlier, it was in a rough area at the bottom of a
relative's garden... there are some houses fairly close (one is adjacent!) so I
wondered what might happen! The whole area was lit up, and it was too hot
to get close to the fire.

I love bonfires, don't even mind the smell getting into my clothes. My brother was a bit of a pyromaniac as a child, any excuse to set a bonfire and he'd be there, even setting the hedge on fire once!! I think it must be in the genes!!
