O.J. Simpson

O.J. Does 'If I Did It' Interview About Murders

Simpson Was Acquitted Of 1994 Murders Of Ex-Wife, Goldman

POSTED: 11:59 pm EST November 14, 2006

LOS ANGELES -- Fox plans to broadcast a two-part interview with O.J. Simpson in which the former football star discusses the slayings of his former wife and her friend, for which he was acquitted.

According to the network's Web site, the interview, titled "If I Did It, Here's How It Happened," will air in late November.

Simpson, who now lives in Florida, was acquitted in a criminal trial of the 1994 killings of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Simpson was later found liable in 1997 in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the Goldman family.

Messages left with Simpson and his attorney Yale Galanter were not immediately returned.

Fox said Simpson has agreed to an "unrestricted" interview with book publisher Judith Regan.

"O.J. Simpson, in his own words, tells for the first time how he would have committed the murders if he were the one responsible for the crimes," the network said in a statement. "In the two-part event, Simpson describes how he would have carried out the murders he has vehemently denied committing for over a decade."

The special precedes the Nov. 30 release of Simpson's book, also titled, "If I Did It." The book was published by Regan.

A stupid title

Society has ostracized him so why does he keep popping back up? He's toast. I wouldn't touch his book let alone read it.

Well, sadly, yet another case of "Money talks". The network wants to get viewers to make more money, O.J needs more money. Supply and demand. People love controvosy, both the network and O.J understand that and unfortunately, money often overidrs peoples morals. :(

Why can't he keep his butt out of the news??

I read that he was writing a book - he also stated the families will never get their money from the civil suit. Anything for a buck - if everyone would boycott this book, perhaps OJ and the publisher will get the message that NO ONE IS INTERESTED !!! it's " HOW I DID IT"and "BOUGHT MY WAY OUT". Pig

I can't stand him - my husband played football with OJ - at first we couldn't discuss the ordeal, we wrote letters re. the murders, he now believes OJ was involved, and that was the end of that discussion.

I don't care what OJ has to say and there should be a way to enforce payment to the families.

Don't buy the book WE ALREADY KNOW HOW HE DID IT......

Networks should pass on airing this interview @ OJ and the publisher's B.S..

We already know about Double Jeopardy - OJ has been saying neener neener for 10 years now.. He makes me sick..!!

Sponsors should stay away from this program - it could alter their sales also.

I Haven't purchased Honey Baked Ham in 10 yrs. - OJ is associated with the business. I'll never buy them again.

Publisher on O.J.: 'i consider this his confession'

POSTED: 6:30 p.m. EST, November 15, 2006

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- In a deal that some media executives called revolting, O.J. Simpson plans a book and TV interview to discuss how, hypothetically, he could have killed his ex-wife and her friend -- a story his publisher considers "his confession."

Two weeks before the book, "If I Did It," goes on sale, scorn was already being heaped Wednesday on Simpson, the publisher and Fox, which plans to air the Simpson interview in two parts November 27 and 29.

Denise Brown, sister of Simpson's slain ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, lashed out at the publisher for "promoting the wrongdoing of criminals" and commercializing abuse.

Judith Regan, whose ReganBooks imprint is publishing the book, declined to reveal further details of the book's contents.

"This is an historic case, and I consider this his confession," Regan told The Associated Press. She also refused to say what Simpson is being paid for the book but said he came to her with the idea.

The former football star was acquitted in 1995 of murdering his ex-wife and her friend Ron Goldman after a trial that became an instant cultural flashpoint.

He was later found liable for the deaths by in a civil wrongful-death suit filed by the Goldman family. In the years since, he has been mocked relentlessly by late-night comedians, particularly for his vow to hunt down the true killers.

Simpson has failed to pay the $33.5 million judgment against him in the civil suit. His NFL pension and his Florida home cannot legally be seized. He and the families of the victims have wrangled over the money in court for years.

Simpson and his attorney Yale Galanter did not immediately return calls for comment.

Meanwhile, other publishers and publishing industry observers practically fell over each other to criticize ReganBooks, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, and Simpson himself.

"This is not about being heard. This is about trying to cash in, in a pathetic way, on some notoriety," said Sara Nelson, editor in chief of Publishers Weekly. "That a person keeps wanting to bring this up seems almost nutty to me."

Patricia Schroeder, president and chief executive of the American Association of Publishers, described the developments as sickening.

"But I think it's going to stir an awful lot of debate and make the culture take a real look at itself, and that may not be unhealthy," she said.

Indeed, one thing that seemed certain was that the book and interview -- which Fox will air at the end of the crucial sweeps month -- were bound to generate a torrent of publicity.

Shari Anne Brill, a television analyst for the Madison Avenue firm Carat USA, predicted public interest would rival that of the 2003 interview with Michael Jackson, seen by 27 million people in 2003.

At least one other network, NBC, said it had been approached to air the special but declined the offer.

"This is not a project appropriate for our network," said Rebecca Marks, a spokeswoman for the entertainment division of NBC, a network that once employed Simpson as a football analyst.

Representatives for CBS and ABC did not immediately return calls for comment.

One expert noted that the justice system's protection against being tried twice for the same crime means Simpson's book, explosive as it may be, should not expose him to any new legal danger.

"He can write pretty much whatever he wants," said Laurie Levenson, a Loyola University law school professor and former federal prosecutor who has followed the case closely. "Unless he's confessing to killing somebody else, he can probably do this with impunity."

I just hear this morning about FOX dropping the show. Glad they listened to the public, and not the wallet.

I heard that many of the FOX affiliates were not going to run the special, and some stores were not going to sell the book. Those stores that were going to sell the book said they would give all the profits to charity.

 I'm sorry I work for a non-profit charity that accepts other fundraisers donations. I can tell you without a doubt this is one we would turn down money from period I can't imagine any charity taking money from the sale of his book.

I don't know about anybody else, but I find no difference in this and the actual murders themselves in general...what a joke...

How could anyone still consider OJ innocent after he has blatantly voiced that he is capable of murder? That's exactly what it is. Planning a murder is no different than committing a murder, because it all starts with willingness, not outcome.

To be honest I was too young to remember the details of the case, at the same time, being a kid I was never really interested in that type of stuff, I was too busy doing what I enjoyed doing...which was practically sports non stop...but once anyone is off the field I look at it as simple reality...That and I never really knew who OJ Simpson was because like I said, I was too young...

Even growing up I chose to ignore anything affiliated with him or the case, because there was nothing anyone could do, he was acquitted.

But now, I have lost any reason to consider him innocent whatsoever, and even by the divine truth in god, if he were actually innocent, I would still resent the man for blatantly discussing how he could commit such a grotesque act, and I seriously hope he gets what he deserves, if he really is guilty...and I hope anyone else affiliated with his defense(while choosing to ignore their instinct) is taught a lesson as well...

It's this sort of thing that puts the pause button on in life, and I resent every part of it.

if the t.v. network cancelled the show and some bookstores announced they would not carry the book, perhaps threads similar to this made a difference. the help prevent and find missing children charity i'm associated with would not accept donations from the sale of this type book or from any other issue this controversal. now if we could sway support for other domestic issues that need fixing, we'd really have something.

O.J. Simpson got away with murder due to a couple of factors...one was a prosecuting team who thought it was so obvious they didn't have to account for number two, which was a racially biased, ignorant jury. (I remember one of the jurors who was interviewed...she kept talking about how "they couldn't prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt." Clearly, the woman didn't understand the basic principle of criminal law.)

Good-looking, famous men have been getting away with murder for years. Look at Klaus Von Bulow. (That could be misspelled...sorry.)

Rosie Greer visited OJ in jail/prison and what was said during their conversation and wasn't allowed into evidence.. It was the last time Rosie Greer visited OJ.

Statement was Rosie said - you have to come clean - OJ states and yells, I didn't mean to do it, it got out of control.. gee you think ??

Did OJ kill them ? Yes
