More bad news for potential majority leader John Murtha. Americans are being reminded of his slimy involvement in ABSCAM - by his own party (Steny Hoyer supporters)! According to Murtha, he is being "swiftboated" by his own party. Now we learn he earmarked, or funneled, tens of millions of tax dollars to his brother's lobbying firm and Murtha may be subject to an ethics investigation (I'll believe that when I see it).

Speaking of Steny Hoyer, Pelosi has called for an investigation of the House Administration Committee recently chaired by disgraced Rep. Bob Ney. Pelosi wants to know how licensing agreements were steered toward a client of Jack Abramoff. Oops. The only problem is that those meetings were brokered not by Ney but by Steny Hoyer, another Democratic candidate for majority leader. Democratic ties to Abramoff? We're not really surprised are we?

Pelosi is really showing herself to be an astute leader. Besides backing an ABSCAM co-conspirator and unwittingly revealing the corruption of her own party leaders in an attempt to torpedo Republicans, Pelosi is backing Alcee Hastings to head the House Intelligence Committee. This committee is privy to top secret information. Hastings was a U.S. District Judge that was impeached by a Democratic Congress for taking bribes from mobsters. Pelosi voted for his impeachment but now wants him to chair a committee vital to the security of this nation.

They haven't even gotten to the infamous "100 hours" and it's already a circus. God help us all. Might I suggest that moderate Democrats drain the swamp of their own corrupt leadership.

If we get all of the corrupt politicians out of Congress who would be left?

We could always hold a special election and start sending regular citizens to Washington. We should never settle and accept corruption as a way of doing business.

Yes, I d/n think it has evolved quite the way the Founding fathers envisaged, i.e. a full time career..professional crooks er ah I mean politicians..

Jack Abramoff, the lobbyist who Demcrats connected to Republicans in ethics probes, is set to reveal to the Feds the names of "six to eight seriously corrupt Democratic Senators". Abramoffs words, not mine. Not looking good for the newly elected home team that made a campaign out of promises to "drain the swamp of corruption".

I think most politicians eventually get seduced by the power of Washington. That's why it's important for us as voters to impose term limits on these guys and ensure fresh faces get a rotation through the Capitol. I didn't vote for my incumbent representative for that very reason. I like him and think he is doing an okay job, but he's been in for 9 terms, it's time for a change. I voted for a local restaraunt owner who had no intention of staying in Washington for long.
