My wife goes too work today at Walmart.(she gets there a four am.Where there are people waiting in line for days for a play station 3.
Low and behold two gunmen arrive too rob the folks outside waiting for the 7 am opening.
One of the gunmen shoots a customer who won't give up his cash for his beloved game system.he will be OK after being rushed too UMass medical center.
But how important IS that toy?
And there is talk that Walmart should have notified the authorities of the impending line and perhaps provided protection for the waiting people. Is this walmarts responsibility or are they on there own?
They did not catch the gunmen, dogs lost the sent in the rain.
The whole story is on foxnews.and wfsb.com

Maybe if they knew there would be a crowd waiting, Walmart should have some sort of protection only just in case the crowd themselves got rowdy...I've heard it happens, there was an incident here in a queue for ikea just coz they were selling a ridiculously cheap leather sofa

anyway yeah maybe Walmart should have provided protection...knowing these people would perhaps have a lot of money on them

That is sad. I would have given up the money. No game is worth getting shot!!
There were people waiting at several stores here, also. When I went into one store, I asked what the store was doing for the folks. I was told, basically that not much was done...the store let them come in just before closing to use the rest rooms, but that was about it. I think here the sherriff did do some drive bys, but only during the night hours.

Awful and pathetic. Im also glad your wife is ok. I have never stood on line to purchase anything. Nor have I stood in line to eat at a restaurant. I was just thinking yesterday about the mad frenzy that many people go into at Christmastime. I always hesitate to reveal my scrooge attitude, but truthfully from a buying perspective, I think the whole day should be done away with.

Weeder, what did Christmas have to do with this thread????
I think my brain assumed the people were buying the item for Christmas. My thought process has been a litle weird lately.

Rabid gamers parting with $500, possibly discounted, queueing to be the first to
have the things. Why they queue? Limited stocks until next year? Discounted
price? To be the first amon their peers to play on the thing?
Why resist a robber... many reasons. You think you can get the drop on 'em,
you are outraged, you have saved the money up with difficulty, you're doing
your civic duty. Many more, I'm sure.
The shop "should have provided protection"? Why? They didn't invite the muggers
in... should every establishment provide security? I doubt it!
Should the shop have notified "the authorities"? Maybe, if a health and safety
issue was expected due to large numbers.
Do people routinely carry $500 in cash? Have they no credit/debit card? Would
someone normally be shot, for a paltry $500 (£350, I think)??

I don't understand the thinking behind waiting in line for days for a game console at all. I mean, it's not like the current ones will be the only ones ever made. Just wait a few months for goodness sake. I heard that some wal-mart store only had 10 so they set up 10 chairs and made people run for it? not sure if that's true but all of it's a bit OTT for me.

One of the biggest atractions is that you can get one and sell for 1,2. or maybe even 3 grand or more on e bay or what ever,THIS is the american way;) Think of it as a investment.you buy in for market value and you cash out at a big profit,a fool and his money.:p

I hope they dont have the same problems as they did with the ps2. If they do then the first models out are junk. Personally I'll wait till they work out the bugs from the system. Then drop the price by half to be competitive.
I'm still waiting for ff12 for petes sake!
