I've heard the author of this book rips off everyone from Anne McCaffrey to Tolkein ... have you read the book and is it any good? I much prefer to read the book before seeing the movie.

The books are brilliant! I loved them and can't wait to see the film.
It's worth trying to read them, I think because they are aimed at a teenage audience they aren't too hard to read, there are a lot of characters but they are introduced well so that you don't get confused.

And the best part of the books is that you get a pronounciation guide so that you can show off to other people by saying Eragon right (it's not how it's spelt - EHR-uh-gahn,(from the book))

Well I've read the books and just watched the movie and I loved them! I must say though, even though I loved the movie, it made me a bit disappointed too.
First of all, they left out a bunch of stuff that i wanted to see, but then again thats understandable since you cant put everything in a 1 and a half hour movie. However, in my opinion, the role of King Galbatorix wasnt casted very well... i mean, John Malkovich is a great actor in his other films, but he wasnt right for this movie. He acted more like a spoiled brat than a king. also they needed to have a more defined transition into Eldest if they are to make a second movie.
But now looking on the good side.. even though Saphira was a created with CG effects, she was quite believable to me. And her voice was just how i imagined it to be. And Ed Speleers made a great Eragon (And not to mention how goodlooking he is.. i'd say both a combination of hot and cute lol!). He played the character well and had great emotions, and as a newcomer he did an awesome job. I also believed in the brotherly bond between eragon and roran. And even though most films with dragons in it are seen as corny, it definately is not with this. Eragon and Saphira had good chemistry with each other as Dragon Riders and you really believe in their friendship. And they had some pretty cool effects too.. I must say, the movie kept me at the edge of my seat wondering what was happening next even tho i already knew the story. There were some beautiful scenes, and the ending definately brought tears to my eyes.
I most certainly think it is worth the watch and I would definately watch it again. I'm even gonna buy the DVD when it comes out, and not just because I think ed speleers is adorable, but because it was meaningful to me.. I place this movie in my top ten favorite movies. And I'm really hoping that it will do well in the box office so that plans for making the second film will definately continue.. Go Eragon!:)

I really enjoyed the film but I have to agree about Galbatorix, in the books he just oozes evil and that didn't come over in the film. I was also a little disappointed that some of what I feel is vital to the story didn't get seen. Arya was not as aloof as she is in the book and not enough was seen of Murtagh who is important to the telling of this story.
But on the whole I enjoyed it and will buy the DVD.

Although I haven't read the books Clarisse, I agree with a lot of what you have just said there. It's a shame John Malkovich was not a convincing baddie, I personally think that Jeremy Irons would have played it far better. Probably because Jeremy has such a gruff voice that it is so perfect for these roles. I too will be buying this one on DVD.
yeah i agree on that one too.. jeremy irons would have made a good king. he made a good brom thoug.. but somehow i imagined him to look more like gandalf or dumbledore haha :wah:

I think Jeremy would have scared me if he looked like Gandalf He's probably a bit too rough looking for Gandalf and also the voice wouldn't be soft enough - let's leave Gandalf to the actor who played him best, Sir Ian McKellen.
Ok well I guess you're right there.. It would have been too much like lord of the rings or those other fantasy films if he had that typical long-bearded wizard look.. It probably is better this way.. I'm not sure if i right though, but I think in the book Brom was describe as looking like a gandalf-like person.. So thats prolly why i imagined him like that..
