Greetings
I am not certain if we are to introduce ourself separately or on a thread started by another newbie. :-3
Anyway here I am right or wrong, and will have to explore to see what all of
the members here like to write about.
Question: What does the little green icon signify beside our name/signature
box.

I think the green icon you are referring to tells others whether or not you are online.

How long does it take for an avatar to display? I put up one of my own after trying several
which were all too large.....perhaps a while? Just as well.

I found that if one becomes a "supporter" (see top of opening page).... one can choose an avatar....woo hoo - who knew?
