Since reading the bible last year, this is a question that's plagued me. After all, there's no mention of any sexual interaction between Jesus and another female.

So could he have been gay? Two things spring to mind. The long nightrobe thing, and the long hair/beard(I see this as a cover. Nobody ever accused the Vikings of being gay, they all had long hair and beards, and I'm sure Jesus was aware of this, and was well aware of their macho image), etc.

I know this is a thorny issue, but I must stress that I've absolutely nothing against poofs, and if Jesus was one then my belief would be unaffected.

Of course there was mention of Jesus having carnal interactions with women, only these parts were destroyed by those that wanted to control!

If he was, what's wrong with that?

I think it's about time the world had female presidents and a gay Christ.

If nothing else, everyone would coordinate with each other.

I don't think Jesus was gay. The Bible never mentioned him laughing or dancing, that I'm aware. He was mostly melancholy, I think. :yh_glasse

Anything's possible, but not likely. A Rabbi of that day would not have had much clout if he were not married, leading an awful lot of historians to conclude that he and Mary Magdelene were.

The whole celibate priest nonsense didn't get introduced till a couple hundred years after his death.

My guess, and it's just that, is that he was straight, and married to Mary Magdelene.

And Jesus was alive about a thousand years before the Vikings.

Though not likely the case with Jesus the main question in my mind is "Why care?"

Homosexuality was more of an elite behaviour. It most certainly existed as it does today.

One of the spells translated in this volume is for a man to obtain a male lover: evidence of a homosexual sub-culture, neither philosophic nor literary which we may believe existed at other times and places in the ancient world, but which has left little evidence.

I think if anyone reads the Christian mystics (e.g. St John of the Cross, St Teresa of Avila) or speaks with someone who, through prayer and meditation, or simply good fortune, has reached the place of no thought, in which every cell of their being is in ecstasy and in union with God, they wouldn't have to ask questions about Jesus's sexuality...I guess it was, in all senses of the word, immaterial to Him.

If the next great religious leader was a homosexual it would not affect my opinion of the words offered. A great mind is a great mind. The sexuality of the person is not a matter of concern.

Assuming that he would not have made his sexuality a part of his world message, I think that his vision of people and the world would still have created a following. If not, then he wasn't a true prophet. A true prophet can be of either sex and any sexuality. If they have a powerful message it would not, or should not, be affected by such trivial things.

According to the Talmud there were also seven women who are counted as prophets whose message bears relevance for all generations: Sarah, Miriam, Devorah, Hannah (mother of the prophet Samuel), Abigail (a wife of King David), Huldah (from the time of Jeremiah), and Esther. There were, of course, other women who functioned as prophets, and the last prophet mentioned in the Bible, Noahdiah (Nehemiah 6:14) was a woman.

But he changed the OT God from being wrathful and jealous to being a loving God.

That's a pretty big deviation and people seem ok with it.

I like the exptectant one and the soldier one.

My personal feeling is that he was androgenous. He was so spiritually evolved that fornicating just for pleasure was not something he considered, desired, or contemplated at all. He instinctively knew that love is not restricted to gender, and that there are many expressions of love. Physical being not necessarily the most important.

You do ask the damnedest questions.

According to Bart Ehrman, in "Misquoting Jesus", a Biblical scholar, there is no evidence whatsoever that Jesus was married. Nor is there any comment about his sexuality.

Ehrman also comments on the so called conspiracy theories of documents hidden in the Vatican. His response is this is not so.

In fact if anyone wants you can buy a book with all of the other writing considered for the canon of scripture.

I would say the short answer is no.
