I figure there most likely are some people here who have some experience with marijuana and since I'm not one of them, I thought I'd put out some feelers. I'm not interested in trying it, but my good friend is ill and that is what got me to thinking. Anyway, if anyone wouldn't mind answering some questions I have, I would be appreciative.
I guess I should say that even though I have no firsthand experience with it, I've always supported it based on what I have been told of it. But maybe I am wrong?
Pain: will grass help relieve pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia?
Will it have any bad side effects such as rotting teeth, bad skin, cancer if smoked, etc?
Is it more productive to smoke it or cook with it? Both for enjoyment and especially pain relief if it helps that.
How can you get it other than some weirdo on a streetcorner? How do you know it's safe?
Is the effect it produces anything like the "euphoric" effect of Vicodin? I use vicodin for arthritis and I am familiar with the "happy buzz" but I am wondering why so many people like grass and how it compares.
Will it make one stupid if used on a medical basis?
That's all I can think of for now. Sorry if I seem ridiculous but my questions are sincere so please be gentle.
Thank you.

OK, it has been a while, but I did use it. Not alot..but some. I felt no effects whatsoever except for a slight headache. But, back when I was using it, I had not heard of the medicinal properties of it. So I do not know about that,. This is just my experience.

I'll do the best I can. It's been a long time.
I guess I should say that even though I have no firsthand experience with it, I've always supported it based on what I have been told of it. But maybe I am wrong?
>>>That's up to your own conscience.
Pain: will grass help relieve pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia?
>>> It might make it so you don't care.
Will it have any bad side effects such as rotting teeth, bad skin, cancer if smoked, etc?
>>>No.
Is it more productive to smoke it or cook with it? Both for enjoyment and especially pain relief if it helps that.
>>> I'd say smoke it. But, smoke is known to eat up oxygen and that can cause headache, which is yet another pain :/ So maybe she'd be better off baking with it.
How can you get it other than some weirdo on a streetcorner? How do you know it's safe?
>>> (A) There's more ppl that have it than just a "weirdo" on the street. Try a work mate. You'd be surprised who smokes pot. Try a cousin in high school and so on. (B) Pot is pretty safe no matter what.
Is the effect it produces anything like the "euphoric" effect of Vicodin? I use vicodin for arthritis and I am familiar with the "happy buzz" but I am wondering why so many people like grass and how it compares.
>>> Vicodin makes me itch

Euphoric? No. Pot is just like laughing gas in the dentist's office.
Will it make one stupid if used on a medical basis?
>>> No. I know ppl who've used it for cancer recovery. They are not stupid.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive and medicinal ingredient in marijuana, binds to the pain receptors in the brain, thereby blocking the sensation.
From Wikipedia :
THC has analgesic effects even at low doses that do not cause a "high", and cannabis was once commonly used to treat pain.

The rabid, irrational opposition to marijuana makes many a politician very stupid.
Moderate or infrequent use, whether for medicinal or recreationaal use, will not cause any medical problems. Unfortunately, legal problems are another matter.

Pain: will grass help relieve pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia?
I used to suffer pretty bad headaches. Still do some days. I smoke grass to alleviate that pain, and for me, it works. I understand that not everyone feels the effects of pot, thpough, and it's really not something I would reccomend to someone to use for this purpose unless it's suggested to you by your doctor.
Will it have any bad side effects such as rotting teeth, bad skin, cancer if smoked, etc?
I brush my teeth 3 times a day, especially because I smoke a considerable amount of pot. Whether it rots teeth like crack does, I don't know.
Is it more productive to smoke it or cook with it? Both for enjoyment and especially pain relief if it helps that.
I have also made MANY batches of "whacky brownies" and I like the taste of them! It is an aquired taste, though!
How can you get it other than some weirdo on a streetcorner? How do you know it's safe?
You don't know it's safe, actually, because it's not possible to tell pot that has been laced with anything. That's something that sneaks up on you after the fact. If you haven't asked for it, you DON'T want it.
Is the effect it produces anything like the "euphoric" effect of Vicodin? I use vicodin for arthritis and I am familiar with the "happy buzz" but I am wondering why so many people like grass and how it compares.
I have been on some of the most potent pain killers aside from heroin since the crash on August 20th. Like Vicodin? Not even close, for me. But, I don't like the buzz from Vikes, so again, it is personal preference.
Will it make one stupid if used on a medical basis?
Pot kills brain cells, plain and simple. Those cheesy old commercials that make fun of pot heads? ALL TOO TRUE.

You have to understand the pain
constant -always there - no relief pain - nothing anyone can do pain.
We've all have tooth aches - yes, they're painful - we've had pain for so long nothing knocks you out. I've had major - doesn't go away pain since 1995..
I'm not a pill take - first few numbs you - eventually your immune to meds. And you won't like the changes..

Within the last month, I've become acquainted with more pain pills than I've ever used in my life! My original reaction was to try to reject them. Everyone I talked to said "USE THE PILLS!" It seems that it's much easier to stay AHEAD of the pain than to try to CATCH UP! It also seems studies show healing is quicker if there's no pain involved.

that is very true. you dont want it to get away from you. it is hard to undo it if you get in much pain before you take something for it......

Patsy, I've just had a total knee replacement and I'm not ABOUT to feel more pain than is necessary! Trust me on this one...pain pills make it possible to have physical therapy in the office and to do it at home. Without them, I'd never be able to do what they want me to do.
I'm not going to use them one day longer than I need them...but, right now, I really need them!

Thank you for your replies, Everyone!! I really appreciate it.
My friend has fibromyalgia so badly and she's been on Oxycontin/Vicodin/Tramadol/Neurontin/ETC!! for years and is now on morphine which worked for about two days, seriously. Her tolerance has built up so high that after the two days, it stopped working. There's nothing left to do for her now as far as we know. She gets pain across her arms and chest that she can't differ from a heart attack. She won't know, she says, if and when she really does have a heart attack.
BabyRider, I am saddened to hear that it does kill brain cells, because I was thinking it was looking pretty good there. I wonder what a comparison would be? My friend is very intelligent and knowledgeable about all kinds of things; I wonder how long it would be till we noticed anything? I do remember kids at school being burnouts but they were kind of stupid to begin with.
I can't relate, I don't think, to the pain you guys have. I take vicodin for osteo arthritis in my feet and ankles (was born with clubfeet, have had two operations) and after about three years of off and on usage, my tolerance level is at the dangerous point so I am going to ask my new doctor tomorrow about other pain killers. Right now according to all I've read on vicodin, if I keep going, I'm going to get hooked with the amount I'm taking and I don't need a problem like that for sure. I wouldn't compare my pain with yours or my friend's, but I am able to appreciate living with pain on a daily basis. Yesterday and today, I have hurt so badly I can hardly walk, no exaggeration. Just going out to feed my foster dogs is a chore. I am sorry for you all who have even worse pain.
Thank you for taking my questions seriously and taking time to answer them as I felt a bit silly posting them, but I knew you guys would come through!

I smoked pot for a couple of years back in the 70's. The lifestyle... music, pot , art.... It was great, at first. But then for me, I became one of those people who was paranoid and frightened while under the influence. I always much preferred a drink as I could controll the effects by how much I consumed. In those days all pot was simply pot. We knew by where it was from how potent it would be. Mexican about 10.00 an ounce... mild lousy stuff. Colombian better probably 25.00 an ounce. Expensive was African like cheeba cheeba probably 50 to 60 an ounce. 3 tokes could send you to the moon and turn your body to rubber. It always reminded me of the book The Good Earth. Around the time they started lacing it with other chemicals, I was already through with it. I can see that it would be great for pain relief. I do not believe it rots your teeth. It does great damage to young people as it makes them quite lethargic, unmotivated, and negative. I dont understand how they risk ingesting stuff that is chemically treated. There were a couple of horror stories in my time about young people whose brains never returned to normal after smoking laced stuff. I think that if pure pot can help anyone in great pain... it is a great thing.

There is nothing that doesn't have side effect period, be it a pill or pot just that simple.
Pot does kill brain cells over a log period of time thus the term "Pot Head" Dude.. :wah: Alcohol will do the exact same thing only faster. There isn't anything you can take that doesn't have some side effect.
Does pot help with pain YES and appitite, and your mood. :-6 Everything is good went you use pot. Yes I have smoked my fair share of POT and loved it. But heck in the 60's everything was in. :-6
I broke my neck in 1987 and was disabled for 10 years. During that time I was in physical, and mental rehab 3 to 4 times a week. The best class I was in, was very new in the 80's it was called "Pain Management" basically it teaches you how to deal with your pain and the medications your taking. I found it to be a lifesaver. Physicians are just going to give you what you want to stop your pain. No one teaches you how to manager the drugs and manager your pain.
I would suggest your friend find out about such a group in her area they are usually tied to a hospital and a shrink. There are drug user, drunk, pill poppers and people like me who just wanted to manage the pain I was going to have to live with the rest of my life. It worked
