I only caught part of the story..wasn't the caregiver's response something like "oops?

I'm not sure why anyone finds it distressing - could someone explain?

What can I say ignorance is bliss. It is posted in english and spanish what to put in the bins, no where does it say put people in the bins. :-5

If the little one didn't go through the X-ray machine then the only problem is the not so bright grandma that put he/she in there to begin with...

If there is, I still can't yet see it. Perhaps there's neglect or carelessness on the part of the airport authority but that doesn't seem to have been considered an issue at all.

I guess I can see this POV. I mean, shouldn't there be somone stationed at the entry to the machine...just to monitor what is being put on the conveyor..and say, "excuse me, you may not want to put the baby there?"

Neither's going to do any more harm than the other, it's not as though it's a tree shredder we're talking about.

The reason this hit the news outlets is that the media enjoys an opportunity to laugh at those people it considers in some way defective or strange. I think they chose a bad target this time.
