Hey Gang
I've just been diagnosed with adult acne and rosacea :-1
It's pretty depressing, as I never struggled with acne as a teenager. I look in the mirror and get sad.
I have little red bumps around my mouth (known as 'periorbital acne'). I was finally able to get an appointment with a dermatologist (there was an article in the Boston Globe on Sunday that stated that people in Boston wait the longest amount of time -- 3 to 6 months -- for an available appointment with a skin doctor

) about 1 1/2 weeks ago.
I've been on short-term steroids, antibiotics (for the acne) and a gel called MetroGel (for the rosacea). The MD said it could take several months to clear up.
It seems to be getting worse before it gets better.
Have any of you struggled with this before? :-6
I'm having trouble looking in the mirror and seeing what stares back at me.

HUGE HUGS, Cher! Metrogel will work...it just takes a little time. Do you have a "trigger?" Red wine will do it to me, so I've learned to avoid it. Welcome to the wonderful world of maturity. (BLECH!)
(By the way, my dermatologist said most people with rosacea didn't have trouble during puberty. Seems like life'll get you..sooner OR later! I'm sorry.)

Thanks sweetie. I don't know what the trigger is; my hubby is convinced it is hormonal. I haven't started menopause yet (I just turned 45), so who knows?
Patience is a virtue, right?
But it's pretty hard to wait

Usually, if there are food triggers, you'll know because you get red or feel warm in your face. You'll become more attentive to that and might find one or two. Just keep using the Metrogel. You're lovely--nobody will notice!
(Next time you see your doctor, have a blood test...you're not too young for perimenopause. Sorry to say. Good to know, though.)
Perhaps hubby can think of a way to take your mind off things?

Hey Cher, I don't have what you have but when I get an allergic reaction it shows on my face and I feel like a freak, so I can sympathise with your 'I look in the mirror and feel sad' :yh_hugs

Cher, Betty....this'll sound odd, but if you're trying to cover up redness, green-tinted makeup will work! Look at Physicians' Formula....they make a little stick which can help fade things you'd rather not see.
Cher, dear, you certainly don't need ME to suggest ideas for diversions with hubby!

I know about makeup thanks Lulu but that just irritates my skin more and I just 'don't really do make up' anyway.

A guy I know suffered from scaly, red skin that used to look like elephant skin. Nothing the Docs prescribed helped, and eventually he went to a Chinese natural remedy place. They mixed him up this concoction of all sorts of stuff including oak bark and different plants. They also gave him a list of ingredients so he could make it himself. D'ya know, within a month most of it was gone.
I've tried it all over the years Pinky, this is all down to me being a Celiac now, no cure for that I'm afraid.

Awww Cherie that is most unfortunate

I hope the meds work out for you, or like Pink suggested a naturalpath alternative.
I can sympathize a bit with you with all my annoying skin allergies...it's no fun having a red blotchy skin

Thanks, guys
BSquared, celiac disease is much more in the mainstream lately. When I worked for nutritionists 10 years ago, we saw a few patients who had celiac issues. Now, when I go to the supermarket, I see a whole section devoted to foods that are safe for celiac sufferers.
I guess we've come a long way, right? :-6
I'm gonna give this treatment a couple of months -- if I see no change or it gets worse, I'll have to look into other things.
Thank you all for your support -- you guys rule! :guitarist

Ain't that the truth!
But you know, BCup, we've got a lot of great things in our lives, too.
It just so happens that acne and crooked teeth aren't two of them

My twin sis always wanted bigger breasts. I think she 'toyed' with the idea of getting implants, but not very seriously. I find that padded bras are WONDERFUL!
My husband calls this 'false advertising'

Now...I've always had the opposite problem...too much of a good thing! Shoulder strain, etc. Want some of mine? Bigger ones are more subject to gravity, I think.

I'd happily go from DD to C. (Come to think of it...are those cup sizes used in the UK? I never bought a bra there.)

Awww, poor you C&B, don't worry too much love, it will be alright. I never had those things, I even managed to avoid it too bad when I was a teenager so I am very lucky. I did get the chicken pox when I was about 23 though, that was a bit unpleasant. I know for a pretty woman it must not be nice when she gets a bit of a breakout like this, but you'll be alright, just take the advice and I'm sure it will go away. :-4
Oh BTW, thanks for updating us on the bra thing girls, thats always useful to know. :wah:

Thank you as always for your most kind words :-4
Now on to bra size: I am a B cup (barely!). I'm pretty comfortable with that. I think C cups are just beautiful. Just enough, but not too much.
Silicone implants were just re-approved in the U.S. after several years of them being banned. So now, women have a choice between silicone and saline.
Apparently, silicone is said to feel more realistic.
Do we have anyone here who has actually felt fake breasts?

No, no, I am in complete agreement with women talking about their breasts at all times of course. Don't worry, you gotta talk about these things somewhere, I won't make lewd comments, (or at least I will try to control my more immature male side) after all, its only natural init?

Breasts come in all shapes and sizes, don't they? You've got the 'perky' ones, the fake ones so high up on the breastbone that they stand up independently, pendulous ones (which are quickly going south:p ), etc.
And don't even get me started on nipples

Yes indeed, Ive encountered quite a few types in my time, I can't say I ever had any turnoffs, I think women worry about their own bits more than the men do, we tend to go for the overall package, though of course we do think about such things from time to time!

Actually, I've been trying to stay out of there. I had a bit of an experience with 5 tipsy girls in a restaurant the other night, and it was a bit scary. Not that they were after me or anything, they were just having a girlie time, and sometimes men are not meant to be involved, I am wise enough to know that at this stage, know what i mean?

Yes, she went from a 'B' to a 'C' cup, she had them put behind the muscle rather than in front, they look fabulous, you cant tell they are fake. Suppose thats what got me thinking about it

Were they saline or silicone? It's interesting that they were put *behind* the muscle -- is that what is normally done?

Da da da dah, I may have a soloution to your problem...... I have worked on people with acne, I often use a treatment called High Frequency Facial Electrics, it is basically a very deep cleansing treatment, you would start with one treatment a week for a month then go onto one treatment every 2 weeks, then depending on the results you would have following treatments as approx once a month, you could aslo have a deep steam cleansing facial in between the facial electrics. Every client has had a dramatic improvement with the condition of their skin, it is quite often down to hormones but it's good to avoid red wine and excessive alcohol.
Not sure if this info will help, but please don't avoid mirrors, you should be very pleased with the reflection dear friend :-4
