Actually, FG is the first forum I have ever really gotten involved with. I certainly have made some very good cyber friends here, though I havn't met anyone in real life. I tend to be a bit standoffish about all that stuff really. Though Pinky is coming over to Ireland in the summer so I will see her then, and if I am in the UK this year I think I would like to meet the FG people of Blighty, I am softening up in me old age.

I'm thinking of booking a long weekend for Jim and I to come over, i've never been and it's supposed to be beautiful.

I usually stay in Kensington (as in kensington daaahling, not that I can afford Kensington, but I have a friend who can!), and I try and make it over at least once or twice a year to see my friends in London, and of course get to a villa game. I would like to see the old alma mater in Colchester as well again some day, good old colchester. So if there is an FG meet up I will try and be socialble for once! :rolleyes:

This is probably quite true. I can usually understand you Brits well enough (and I can put on my old brum accent for translation purposes), except some of the more difficult north east accents, and the glaswegians. I went out with a glasgow woman for years, and I never understood her dad much, he was a nice man though, I think he liked me. Oh the first time in glasgow was hilarious, I really could not understand a lot of people at all, it was quite embarresing! :wah:

The best friendship I have was formed online almost ten years ago. She is now 26 and I am 40. It's like an older/younger sister relationship. which is nice as we are both onlies. I admit I don't take online friendships as seriously as I do my outernet friends but this one I did and it was worth doing.

i would never of believed it possible for people to meet over the Internet and fall in love but there are people on here i really care about and to be honest i like these people much more than some of my friends that i know in real life especially now I've stopped drinking ... the drunken idjots :wah:

i have known many internet people met just 2 both are 2 of the nicest folk ever 1 is a vicar and the other a girl ,shes a great gal think ill have her for my arm rest ,yep my right hand gal

I've met lots of wonderful people online, but have yet to meet any of them in RL. I have a couple of very special friends online, and one of them is coming to the states in October for my birthday. She's terrific and we're both in similar fields, as well as having similar interests, so the friendship bloomed. She's also dating someone from the states, so she may be moving here, which would be fantastic.

I always enjoy phone calls, as it's nice to at least have a voice, and the accents trip me out

I just made that up, "outernet" as opposed to internet, because it feels odd to say my "real life friends." As if online friendships are somehow fake. Sure, some are, but I think most are similar to a pen pal...what do you think?

Yes, I remember asking an American girl if I could "Bum a fag" in england once, she nearly died, she though I was after some gay sex, man that was priceless. :wah:

Yes, I think the pen pal analogy is quite apt actually, though its like having 20 pen pals at once of course.

Onlies eh? Thats kinda a nice for it.

I've met a few people from here and look forward to seeing some of them again soon and meeting some new faces.

My family all think its odd and dangerous that I drive miles to meet people I know through here. :rolleyes:

I've made some great friends through here and if we all lived closer I'm sure we'd all get together more often.

Everyone was so helpful, the shuttlebus guy even drove me into town to save me spending a fortune on a taxi, though most things there are so much cheaper than here. Floopy and Lilacdragon were fascinated watching me roll my own ciggies. They couldn't believe how much Marboro Lights are over here!


I've heard about how much more things are there, and thank goodness it's cheaper here, but I think that has more to do with the value of money doesn't it?

I had the pleasure of meeting 13 FG members in RL, and happily call them all friends.

My current mate and I met online as well.

If we think about the overwhelming reaction to BabyRider's accident and how much outpouring of help and concern there was...it shows the depth of how internet friendships can grow.

I've actually met many friends from the internet and would LOVE to meet a lot more of you! One friend flew all the way from Scotland after we'd been chatting for a year or so and has returned twice more!
