What idiot ran that contest? You would think that the first thing that anyone attempting to run a promotion like that would do is to ask someone who knows about such things whether its dangerous (which it is, as was tragically proved there) The mind boggles. The words that come to mind are "needlessly orhapaned children" and "criminal negligence lawsuit".

I agree...

but I also can't help but wonder where personal responsibility starts...These people should have looked in to every possibility associated with what they were/are doing...This is like blaming a speeding driver for hitting someone that didn't look both ways before crossing the street...It's very sad, and this should serve a lesson to anyone who conducts anything remotely close to this, and should also be a reminder to all who choose to ignore the dangers in life...

It's another one of those frustrating things that makes you want to wind the clock back and talk some sense into people, but that's impossible and we're left with "what could have been".

Yes, she was quite unwise as well, I suppose a lot of people kinda think that because something is done officially or on the telly or something that its automatically safe, or that they won't get hurt, and sometimes people are quite foolish as well anyway. Still, the people who organized it are responsible in this case, no stupid contest, no dead woman. She has already paid the ultimate price for not really thinking this one through, so there is no point giving out to her, its very sad. Poor kids.

This is horrible.

Usually when entering a event like this you sign a release - enter at your own risk type format.

I remember a hay ride around the holidays - you had to sign a release before participating.

Its unfortunate - all for a game for her kids. I'd still say someone is responsible.

This will take some legal manipulating - and a full medical report to make sure she didn't have some other medical problem happening - or impaired in anyway.

sad

Maybe the family can sue Nintendo - if the game wasn't so expensive she could've stood in line @ Christmas along with the rest of the idiots to receive that precious game. No she drank water and couldn't pee for a game.?

If I've thought of sueing Nintendo - I'm sure theres a Attorney thinking of a angle.

It wasn't just about drinking as much water as you could, it was about drinking as much water as you could without going to the restroom...Sure people may generally not believe that drinking water could be harmful for you, but any reasonable person would not subject themselves to such a health hazard...Forcing yourself to not go to the bathroom when you need to can be extremely hazardous to your organs...

Also, I think most people would trust the fact that water is not immediately harmful to your health(Unless of course it's brown), but the sheer notion in consuming that much of anything, including water, should be enough for anyone to question it...

People should be more responsible and knowledgeable or things like this wouldn't happen,..coming from both sides.

Actually, there have been deaths in the news fairly recently from

hyponautremia. Some college students instead of drinking alcohol

gave a student a lot of water and he died. It is also being talked about

more and more with runners in marathons, etc. and we're back to

"drink when you're thirsty" with some people. For years we were told

that wasn't good enough!!

If the organizers of the the event would have consulted a Doctor they would have told them Water intoxication is very real and not to take it lightly. Her not being able to go to the bathroom was a deadly mistake.

I would imagine everyone in the sports world know of this you can drink to much water just like anything else and it will kill you that simple. I have know of this, and every Soccer coach I ever played against knows this, it is common knowledge. That is why there is a variety of drinks on the sidelines at all games.

I have alway gone by the rule drink when thirsty.. There is nothing that states you have to drink 8 glasses of water or anything a day. In fact for some it is dangerous it flushes all nutrients and medicines right out of the body for some that is critical.

If it were city water I wouldn't drink more than 4 glasses a day...I would much rather prefer keeping the poison control center off of my speed dial.

News was on - I didn't get all the info - Charges have been filed I believe against the Radio Station that promoted the contest.

Anyone else hear the charges?

Didn't hear that yet but read that 10 people at the station were fired,

I'll see what more I can come up with...
