Has anyone stayed at a Bed & Breakfast?

Where ? Length of stay .? Would you stay at another Bed & Breakfast ?

How exactly do they operate - meaning do all rooms have their own bathroom? Is it a strict/structured routine? Thanks Patsy

Not sure if it's different over here, but I stayed in one in Cornwall that was fantastic.....like a hotel, but no meals after breakfast.

I think some more affordable places are a bit more basic though....maybe sharing the 'facilities' and I think you have to be out by a certain time and in between certain times. Things may have changed though.

I enjoyed my stay ..... most tourist sites have places they recomend...I guess the US is the same.....good luck if you're looking.

depends on how much you pay , i used to stay in a B&B all the time when i used to go to bognor regis i used to love it until they started the continental breakfast thing there , i mean if i wanted to eat cake and jam for brekie i'd move to france

Bognor's a 30 minute drive for me Jimbo.....or 4 hours if you walk around the coast

Are you talking about the UK? If so:

B&Bs vary considerably in their cost and facilities. You arrange to stay, asking

questions as you feel, about breakfast times, whether other meals can be

arranged, what they are likely to be, etc. You stay. You make up your mind

whether you liked it or not, and whether you'd stay again. That's it, really.

You should expect reasonable "home cooking", clean rooms and linen, en-suite

depends on whether it's a real B&B or pseudo-hotel (the latter can have issues),

TV in room, possibly tea-making stuff, possibly area shared with other guests,

e.g. a sitting room, reasonable access (e.g. key or other arrangement to get in!)

and that other guests will be reasonable. I'd avoid the sort of place that takes

in road-menders, etc., or who accommodate a dozen salesmen in small rooms.

i love it down there i take the kids there all summer maybe we could all meet up some time , i used to live in chi but i spent most of my time down there in emsworth .... small world eh



i ran after my daughter once at bognor when she was little ,she had run under the pier .. i chased after her with my sunglasses on she ran under a girder with the shades on i never even saw it , the next thing i knew there was a crowd of people round me i was lying on my back dazed and i was pulling bits of barnacle shells out of my head for two weeks

I think you should ring and check facilities before booking, most of our bed and breakfasts down here now have en-suites, but there's a lot that haven't.

Basically I think you get what you pay for!

I stayed at a B&B about um 14 years ago in Downtown Fredericksburg VA, it was awesome, only overnight (honeymoon suite) it was an OLD renovated home, the bedroom was all antique and just beautiful, very "homey" feeling...NO TV, very romantic, yes we had our own bathroom. Remember that breakfast was sit down at the same time, all guests ate together, don't remember exactly what we had, but it was full breakfast...as far as cost...it was a gift, have no clue!!

I'm interested in staying at a B&B - we're planning to go to the Masters Tourn. in Georgia, (April) I thought that would be a wonderful time to try a B&B. Hotels are ok - I'd like a full package deal - so I'll do some shopping around.

I was just curious what? How structured they were etc.

The best one I ever stayed at was in Applecross in Scotland, beautiful, beautiful place in the highlands, across the bay from the Isle of Skye. Its very isolated, you have to basically drive up and over a mountain to get to it, but its worth it. Its an old fishhing tavern in the village with rooms above, its 20 feet from the seashore, your window looks across the water to the islands of the Island, they do great food, mostly fresh seafood fresh from the bay, they have a great bar, locals are lovely, they all hang out there, its cheap, and the owners are lovely, and they had a little scottish terrier as well, very old-world, and also very welcoming, highly recommended.

B&B's can vary from place to place: some have rooms with private baths and some do not. Always inquire; sometimes the same B&B will offer both at different prices.

When hubby and I stayed in one in Ogunquit, Maine this past summer, we had a private bath and television. Toiletries, like soap and shampoo, were supplied as well. Breakfast was a kind of buffet the next morning. It was really lovely. :-6

I would definately do it...I've never heard of someone NOT liking a Bed & Breakfast...it's usually a more personable type lodging...IMO...more like home than an hotel...Keep us updated on your decision, please...
