Hope someone can help.

I am trying to set up my Outlook express..and am having trouble getting it to send mail. I have the pop3 code in, for receiving...but the SMTP (Or PT, whatever it is) is giving me a bit of a worry..as I do not remember what I need to type in. Can anyone help me out here?

If you tell us who your Internet Service Provider is - the one you pay for your broadband connection - we can tell you what to type in as your outgoing server.

I just went to thier website to get the smtp thing, put it in, and still cannot send through Outlook. My POP is configured fine. So right now, I have to send through thier website.

I just tried calling tech support and there was a 15 min wait..which I just do not have time to do right now.

If I do not get it figured out, I will call again tonight. It is not a major crisis..I just want to be able to go through Outlook.

If your "Mail Server (Incoming)" is pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, or pop3.newnorth.net, then your "SMTP Server (Outgoing)" is smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, or smtp.newnorth.net

If your "Mail Server (Incoming)" is mail.ctaz.com then your "SMTP Server (Outgoing)" is also mail.ctaz.com

Make sure you tick whatever allows authentication. I'm sure that's the default anyway.

Spot..thanks for help..but I have already done all that..several times. And it still fails to send. I am attempting to send test messages to my other email accounts. No luck at all.

Guess I either cannot use it, or will have to resort to sending and recieving through the website directly.

OK, drop your firewall and try - it sounds like you're blocking the sending of email yourself. I assume that you have a resident virus scanner and that you're up to date on the Microsoft security patches already. Dropping the firewall to check this isn't a danger given those preconditions.

If you can send with the firewall down, put it back up and then work out how to allow Outlook Express to penetrate it.

Good idea. I will have to give up for now and do it from home though. But I will try that. Thanks.

Well, after forgetting about the problem for a while, I went in today to try and get it going. And guess what...it works now. It was one stupid little thing..I needed to put my full email address in one part instead of just my user name..and POOF..got it.

Finally.

POOF must be an Internet acronym with which I'm as yet unfamiliar.

Yes..POOF. That is the word when you are at a loss for the right word to use. Like when you are told by tech support to m"push ANY key" and you tell them you cannot find the ANY key on your keyboard.
