Hubby and I painted the entire ceiling of the house yesterday. White. A bright white. So now, we're wondering about wall colors. I've heard that a mossy green is a relaxing.... soothing.... peaceful color. Imo, a dark mossy green would be too dark (being that we live where it rains all the time (hence, my name ) I'm thinking of a light mossy green. We live in the forest (kinda) and I'm wanting to stick with earth tones. The kitchen will be a soft yellow and the floor plan is open. So, I'd like some suggestions.

I think a mossy green would be lovely. Rain why not try a ragging technique? You could paint the walls a mossy green then go over it with the rag and the dark green? Or possibly better you can reverse it. It would give you a mottled effect and depending on your shades (one or or two shades apart is supposed to be best) can be as subtle or as bold as you like. You can also try sponge painting, same thing but gives a different visual texture and dimension. I think it makes walls come alive. If you want, I can find some links for painting techniques.

Oh, good idea! I hadn't even thought of that. I had thought of a wall mural on 1 wall though. Behind our pellet stove is a blank slate and the 1st thing you see when you enter the room.

That's cool! I know someone who can really use that info- she's always repainting and redecorating her place. And she does her own murals. This will give her ideas.

They've got thousands! And they can take a personal photo and turn it into a mural too. Oh, to be able to paint. I admire your friend and any other's who can create their own. Too

My sister has her living room and bedroom painted a beautiful olive green. It's stunning on the walls, with white ceilings and crown molding. Adds dimension, and I love color like that throughout a house

or you could do that techinque with just one wall, have an accent wall.

Rain...did we come to my house? Much of it is shades of green, because I love the serenity of it but also every other color looks good with green!

So, in one room, I have burgundy accents and in another I have browns and mauve.

Nothing clashes! Think on that for awhile!

Wolverine, I'd thought of that for a particular wall. Maybe put a mural on that wall. But the ragging/spnoging idea is a great one for that one wall. Those murals are 400 and up.

Lulu, yes, I've noticed in nature that there isn't anything that doesn't look good with green. My problem is that being that it's so dark in my neck of the woods so much, that I don't want to darken the house as well. I want it warm and bright. But the mossy green (or Olive) is calling to me. Check out that link I posted. Key in Pine forest and go to page 2. Lovely.

It IS lovely...and it would blend very well with light floral shades in accents, too! YELLOW would be good...so would pink and peach!

@ Nomad. Thanx. That seems to be what ppl think. I didn't know it was so popular, interesting.

Darker colors will make everything seem to recede but you can balance that with the proper furiniture and final touches, like bright throw pillows and colorful pictures.

Well Magenta? What are your colors you finally are liking? I'm looking for suggestions.

I'm a little surprised at peoples' reactions to olive, Rain! It can be a great color, used carefully and with complementary colors!

You've done such a great job opening up that room so far....I'm eager to see the end result. (And sorry I'm not closer...I love to paint!)

I will thanx In our Dr's office, I noticed they have an olive(ish) color on their walls and a bright white ceiling. I showed hubby today and he liked it as well. There were 3 different ways to view the color. One room was bright with outside light, the middle room was a little darker and then next to the reception window was lit only with 1 soft lightbulb. So we both got to see the differences and we still liked it. We went to our local Ace hardware store and asked them about the color. They actually had it on file and it's called Mapleton #200-D. It's what we're going with
