Running With Scissors
Nomad's rating:
Annete Benning is remarkable in this film based on the memoirs of a highly dysfunctional family. It was written through the eyes of the son, Augusten.
If you have dysfunction in your family, I recommend this film for you. Its a tragic story told with humor. Only when you realize these characters are real will you understand how tragic this family really is.

I read the book.... missed the movie. Fascinating, but filthy. I can imagine that Annette Benning would be entertaining to watch. Maybe Ive just had enough stories about disfunction to last me a lifetime. From the writing standpoint... I feel once again, that the author tried to portray yet another Holden Caufield ( Catcher In The Rye) with other problems.

I thought the book by Augusten Burroughs was excellent. If you liked it, try his memoir about being an alcoholic titled "Dry". Another good read.

I love the popcorn ratings!!
Some people think Ms. Bening deserved an Academy Award nomination for her role in the movie. She almost won one years ago for "American Beauty", a movie in which she was incredible!
I like her -- she lives her life with class. You never read any gossip about her and Warren Beatty -- and they've got four children together.

I watched it tonight. That was one of the strangest, and best, movies I've seen in a long time.
