And so it begins! They are allowing "1" piece of "checked luggage" on board per each passenger at no charge. Now they are going to charge $10.00 for each additional piece of "checked" luggage, regardless of it's weight.
It surely will not be long before the "other" Airlines follow suit. Infact, overtime they may even increase that surcharge!
On a side note, it was mentioned that some British Airlines already charge a hefty surcharge for "checked" luggage.
So it looks like US Airlines may have some catching up to do! :wah:

I think that's pretty fair, as long as the price doesn't go up. Some probably take lots of luggage which then isn't fair on those who don't and take up a lot more space and weight.

If you take (say) 40Kg of luggage in one case, that's OK. If you take two 20Kg
cases, you will be surcharged. That's the point!

So then use a bigger suitcase. If people are told then it's their choice.

Yes you're right cg, especially since Spirit Airlines is a discount smaller Airline, it seems $10.00 is sort of reasonable. However, when the "bigger" airlines see this as being a cash cow, they will be jumping in with both feet & they won't stop at only $10.00. :wah:

"Bigger" suitcase means excessive weight. The Airlines already adds a surcharge on a "checked" piece of luggage that exceeds 50lbs.
(Carry on's can't exceed 40 lbs!)

Yeah there does need to be some sort of rule so all airlines can't just add on what they want. I think $10.00 is pretty fair.
