I can get by in arabic and have a GCSE in french but can only say I like to play tennis really.

I speak two very well, but I read and write in alot of languages. I couldn't speak them in conversation, though.

I often hear people in the Uk that can not talk English but always seem to be able to swear in English!:wah:

Idioms have always interested me, but I have to admire my son who can speak Russian and Norwegian. Think they would be a lingo too far for me.

In the States we don't always come into contact with foreigners. But, we're trying to rectify that in our school system. We begin teaching our Kinders up to the 6th grade Spanish since we live so close to Mexico. We have a great influx of Mexicans in my area, and it's nice to be able to converse with them. Our kids also have a choice of learning German, French and Italian in the middle and high schools. They're also involved in the "Ambassador's" program and have an opportunity to travel to Europe with a group. We also have an exchange program where our kids can stay with a European family for the summer, and vise versa.


Cool idea, get to see a bit of the continent, and then the Euro-kids can see the states, its all good. :-6
