It's official, The "Smart" is coming to the USA! It is supposed to be the ideal

"City" car, as it is quite nimble & gets 58mpg. (Suprising, I would have thought something that small should get better milage than that) :wah:

I think I would "Rent" one, just for giggles & s*its, but certainly not "Buy" one! :D

I also think it's way over priced, & will be competing against the economical Sentras, Civics, Hundyas that cost much less.

2008 Smart ForTwo

Base price: $25,000 (est.)

Engine: 1.0-liter three-cylinder, 84 hp/88 lb-ft

Transmission: Five-speed automatic, rear-wheel drive

Length x width x height: 105 x 61 x 60 in

Wheelbase: 73 in

Curb weight: 1653 lb

Fuel economy: 50 mpg (est.)

Safety equipment: Anti-lock brakes, stability control and brake assist; dual front airbags (head and thorax bags optional in Europe; est. standard in U.S.)

Major standard equipment: Remote central locking; panoramic roof; audio system

Warranty: Four years/50,000 miles bumper to bumper

To me this car says

'Warning female driver who cant really drive or park'!

So I have never felt the urge to go buy one!

It seems like this car is just like a covered "Go-Cart"! It's only a tad bigger.:wah:

But I bet it does "park" easily in "tight" spots! :D

If you were ever in a "Head-On" crash in that little bugger, they would just push it off to the side of the road & put a headstone in front of it, & that would be your final resting place! :wah: :p

Its a city thing, like a scooter, its practical for a huge, tight city like London, though personally I would prefer a different city car like a mini, or just a ford focus for the city something small and nippy. But whatever about the size of these little fellas they make a lot more sense than someone driving a 3.5 litre 18 foot long Toyota Landcruiser, a 5 liter 24 foot long, 8 foot wide Humvee, or a 3.9 Litre turbocharged Land Rover down the kings road in Chelsea every day to go to Harvey Nicks and buy necklaces and truffles, which they put in a little box in the cathedral sized boot, thats stupid. Those cars are designed for long journeys, wars, and obviously for driving in fields, not going to school in Knightsbridge, but what can you do, people want to show how rich and obnoxious they are I guess.

I did consider buying one because I wanted something a bit different for work and was going to have my shop's name signwritten on it - didn't get one in the end because it only has two seats so it wouldn't have been much use outside of work. Bought a KA instead. In green

:wah:

You know how cars normally park - nose to tail? I saw one of these the other day that was parked in a bay sideways - and it fitted perfectly! :wah:

No more parallel parking - just reverse in! Brilliant! :wah:

I've driven the roadster and it was nice.

The original SMART car we hired whenwe went to Rome and it was brilliant.

While in England I drove a Mini, Mayfair I think. They're nothing like the Minis here in the US. A go-kart with a windshield. I could adjust the passenger door mirror from the driver's seat. the seats were removable foam cushions on metal frames. To adjust the seat, I had to get out and lift it slightly then slide forward or back. It took forever to find the battery; it was under the back seat cushion, which explained why it had a back seat at all, I guess.

I have to say, it was loads of fun to drive.

20 years ago I learnt to drive in a mini (an old one then!) - it was mustard brown and had switches for lights, indicators etc on the dashboard not on stalks - great fun to drive and very reliable!

I can see that this car would be ideal for Paris, London etc. very congested areas.

My neighbor has one - I believe he pulls it behind his Motorhome for trips. cute.

Its great for short trips & running around - I couldn't imagine it on the freeways next to a big rig. I had a Volkswagon Bug for years and that was scary enough.

I wouldn't. I'd be claustrophobic in there! Plus, I prefer more manly looking cars. :p :wah:

I think I will either love it hate it lol.

I just put unleaded regular "gas" in my car today, to the tune of $2.60/gal!

And it only gets about 22/23mpg. So if you do get that little beauty, it is advertised to get close to "60"mpg, that will certainly be a pleasing attribute when at the gas station! :)
