If you saw someone in a store stealing, would you go report them or just walk away? The other night the wife and I was in the Grocery store and I saw a Guy stuffing items under his jacket. I wanted to report him but was unsure what to do.

What would you have done?

Because I work in retail, I would report them. One reason being that the more that is stolen, makes the retail raise prices for the consumer. So, the person not stealing pays in the long run.

Yes, because in the long run, the prices of merchandise would stay down for the consumer.

I agree 100% and that's why I reported him and they caught him. It took me a while to make up my mind what to do though.

Thanks. I guess what made up my mind to report him was the price of the groceries. I know stealing makes the price higher.

I though of that while making my decision.(Maybe he just needs to feed his family)

But when they caught him he was drunk and most of the items he had with him was junk food. I did not feel bad after that. Beside I don't care much for thieves.

I usually hate confrontation or making any trouble. But, I look at it this way....I have to feed my family the old fashioned way, I have to work every day. I don't believe in stealing, cheating or lying, despise it...there is such a thing as citizens arrest...but no-one does it of course-too afraid of not being PC...feeling sorry for the poor people that are hungry-so we let them steal??

Plus, there are people that steal for the fun of it, I know someone that was taught by her mother at a young age to steal, and she married a wealthy man....she still steals for the thrill of it.

Of course it's his business - in fact, it's his *duty*. If you would not have reported

him, would you report someone:

Stealing CDs from a shop;

Stealing money from the till in the shop;

Stealing from customers by picking their pockets;

Stealing your company car.

There was no confrontation. When I told the employee they went and checked the camera and saw him in the act. I don't believe in stealing either. If a person is hungry and has no means to eat there is the food bank that is willing to hand out food. When you steal you make everybody pay.

I just re-read what I wrote, and I would've reported him, I was going to say that I don't think I would have hesitated to report him, then changed my wording, didn't want to seem cynical since I've never been in that situation. I definately would've reported him!

I wasn't sure what to do at first and was just curious what others would of done. I am far from a saint but I honestly can tell you I have not stolen anything in my life.

If this guy broke into your home and was stealing from you,would you still feel bad for him?

I would not of reported it had it been me. But thats just me, i tend to just look after myself and mine.

You're right Nov. Now lets go put a citizens arrest On GWB and see how far we get. What kind of society would you prefer where stealing would not exist? Some people steal because they are too lazy too work for what they want.

Yes i'd report them, 100% . Why is it people feel they have the right to steal anything that takes their fancy . I suppose we should turn a blind eye to benefit fraudsters as well because their only trying to get by :rolleyes: - sorry i don't agree . first time ever i'm going to disagree with two of my buddy's on f g but fisher and wisey are big enough not too wet their nappies over me having my point of view, I personally would never snitch on anyone ever but thats just me ,where i grew up grasses where on level pegging with pedo's ,if i saw the guy ,i'd of told him in no uncertain terms he was putting it back and he was not leaving the shop with his stolen goodies end of ,why get so uptight over a guy stealing a bit of food then totally ignore a person speeding or drunk driving that could wipe out or destroy a whole family ,over to you wisey

I was making more of a statement about what kind of society Novelty would propose that theft would not exist.

Good piont Jimbo. I am not sure how this guy would of reacted if I would of approached him, not that I was scared of him I thought a store employee would handle it better.

About your comment on drunk driving . A few years back I was driving behind a guy the was all over the road. I never even hesitated before I called the RCMP, unfortunately the guy got away. I alway think a family member could be coming the other way and he could smash right into them. When ever I see a drunk driver I will report them in a heart beat.

mate to be honest I have pulled in front of people swerving all over the road drunk in charge ,stopped them told them in no uncertain terms that they get out and walk or i get the cops, you cant let a family die coz some a hole wont pay 5 bucks for a cab :driving: :driving:
