Does anyone here live in Vegas or am I the closest one?
This morning around 2 AM they imploded the Stardust Casino. I find this really upsetting, just another authentic piece of Vegas shot to hell. It was opened in 1958 and was the last Mob-run casino in Vegas. They keep blowing up these historic properties to make room for these new "theme" resorts and malls. Those are nice but if you don't come to Vegas for the gambling then you're coming for the history and right now it's seeping out fast. I hope they saved the sign. That thing should be worth a nice million or so.

I agree- I think it is really sad that they are getting rid of some of the originals- I think the Frontier is next!

For real? The Frontier?! Aw man! Why don't they just bulldoze the whole city then.

It is a shame when well-known buildings are destroyed. I can't think why they
call it an "implosion", either- it's clearly an explosive demolition!

Well I'm not too up on how it works but they rig up the building to blow up from the inside, to fall in upon itself, rather than an explosion where pieces would be flying everywhere. It's supposed to be neater and safer this way.

they imploded one of our hospitals here years ago, it and bout 8 outbuildings it was facinating to see how neatly those buildings collapsed within themselves.

It looks interesting when the film is played in reverse, too!

:wah: Yes it does.
To me it's a little scary seeing those behemoths coming down upon themselves.

When, some time ago, I switched on the television, unaware, and saw those
buildings collapsing in a huge cloud of dust, smoke, and fire - it was scary - I
thought, amongst other things - "What wonderful (modern) design". Otherwise,
the repercussions.... YKWIM.
