Sacked because I am a witch

A SACKED teaching assistant claimed yesterday she was given the boot because she’s a WITCH.

Sommer De La Rosa, 34, said school chiefs feared she would brainwash students with her pagan beliefs.

She told an employment tribunal: “I was shunned by other teachers because of my faith.

“Once they found out I was a white witch they were different towards me. They would only talk to me if it was absolutely necessary.”

Ms De La Rosa, who practises pagan religion Wicca, claims one teacher told her to stop wearing her pentagram necklace, a traditional pagan symbol.

She was sacked last May after nine months in the religious education and music departments at Dorothy Stringer Secondary School in Brighton, East Sussex.

She claims unfair dismissal, but the school and Brighton and Hove Council say she was sacked due to a poor attendance record and “inappropriate disclosures” to students.

The tribunal in Hove continues.

Grrr....a witch is a witch, there is no "white witch" and it's not pentagram, it's pentacle.

It's okay to be taught by christians but not pagans? Like they don't brainwash?

Every time we try to come out of the broom closet they shove us back in.

I rarely call myself a witch Gup. I have such a prob with labels. I'm a used -to-be-Methodist girl, pagan spiritualist. Thats the best I can put it.

I never feel sure whether the reasons the employer gives are legit or not. I think with the strict employment laws on such things they create reasons before they fire a person. I can't figure out how people manage to prove their cases.

Yeah CG. The thread is serious. It's about religion. Pagans and witches are real. We don't fly on brooms but we exist. Perhaps you have questions. Id rather hear those than insults.
