Some atheists can be quite despicable in their actions and comments.

Remember Madalyn Murray O'Hair? Now it was really hard to like her,

and there have been other well covered atheists since she was in the

forefront of getting "School Prayer" banned that are equally

despicable. Their actions alone, would make one never wish to reveal

their atheism for fear of being compared.

But, just like some that call themselves Christians and promote

despicable actions not indicative of all Christians, so it is with

atheists. I think there are quite a few CLOSET ATHEISTS who choose to

stay in the closet for fear of discrimination and all the negative

stigma that some attach to atheism. There are those that would never

hire an atheist if they knew it, or elect one to public office, or let

their children near one, etc., etc. Some find it hard to believe that

atheists can be loving and caring parents, or relish in the beauty of

a field of flowers, or a lovely sunset without a belief in God. Some

believe that all evil stems from the atheist, child molestation, wife

beating, child porn, murder, rape, mayhem & wars. We know don't we,

that religious belief (no matter what the religion), is a guarantee of

peace and civility?

The only folks I have a problem with are the extremists whether of any faith or no faith. Everyone is entitled to follow the path s/he feels is right for them.

Ask a atheist when he's on his death bed if he believes in God or not ;)

Im an atheist and when it comes to my time on the deathbed, I will remain an atheist.. my beliefs have always been strong...or rather my lack of beliefs should i say?

I never preach my ideas though, but if im asked do i believe in this and that, i wont stay in no closet for anybody! I'm proud of my beliefs and im proud of the fact that i am a good, honest person without having to believe in a 'higher being' or the idea that i will be rewarded with paradise at the end of my life.

I had an uncle who all of his adult life that i knew him that he was against god and believed that hell was on earth and all this stuff. but on his death bed the only thing he could say was that he believed in god and knew that there was a god.

i cant say that he got saved or not i dont know but i do know that with all of his non belief that at the end he believed.

u can say that u dont think that u would change ur believe on ur death bed but if u are in enough pain and enough believers are around you then i think that u will see things differently.

no u might not change u belief or lack of belief but u , i think, will acknowledge that there is a higher power

This FG writer could see the results of radical Atheism, which was part of what created " Closet Atheism", the Atheist who hides.

But feels comfortable coming out on a website, with an avatar and name that nobody knows.

Many Atheist are proud, because there exist a type of pride in being a part of a persecuted movement; being a part of a small group that goes against the grain; this creates enormous pride, which in turns just really blinds the individual even more, as their " Self importance is being puffed up." This dynamic existed in Christianity years ago, way before they got big; pride; and they fell. And if Atheism was destined to keep growing, the exact same thing would happen to them, but it is not in their destiny to ever get as big as Christianity.
