Yeah until you see the NASCAR guy is some kinda overweight, sloppy Michelin Man/marshmallow figure wearing a wifebeater and glued to his TV. Where's the beer?! Ok, I admit I laughed for about two minutes but then I got p.issed because it wasn't created by an American.

Again, something like that does promote stereotypes. OK..my husband does call himself a card carrying "redneck", but it does not come across as negative as if someone who does not even know him were to call him that.

I really hate stereotypng... I endevour, at last as much as I am able, to take each person / group of people as I find them.

It's a cartoon. Doesn't bother me cause I don't wear really care how other's see me. Besides I save the wifebeaters for Saturday, much cooler to do the yardwork in them.. sheesh get the redneck stereotype down right! :rolleyes:

Um....cuz it's wrong? If an American made that cartoon about someone else, we'd be getting it. But again its ok for the world to poke fun at us.

The religious zealot reference makes me itch...the George Bush/Monkey faced rifle toting thing rubs me wrong and not all Nascar-watching Americans are redneck clowns. I just think they have it wrong.

Media, I blame your media... we get such an eyefull of glorified ***** from south of our border and suddenly we are led to believe the USA is just what Glitters cartoon says.

Alas, coming onto and staying in a multi nation forum I have learned far more about you americans and am happy to say, those kinds of Crass backhanded cartoons are laughable but so untrue.

Fair enough. But they are way crueler in their portrayal of Americans than that cartoon and they are Americans so they set a standard for what other people might think is acceptable humour.

Why don't you stop trying to provoke American poster's? Most of us are not happy with our perception by the rest of the world and many of us agonize over it daily. As you like to point out in regards to us dealing with your issues the blade cuts both ways and we don't need an Aussie to point out our foibles and make judgements based on a trip here. This is a huge country with many many people and i don't think you are in any postion to fairly evalute us.
