Apocalypto

Nomads Rating

This film regardless of what you may think of Mel Gibson was one of his best pieces of work yet. History in the end will pronounce Gibson as one of the worlds great epic movie makers.

Apocalypto reels you in from the first chain of events showing profound cinematic genius as you watch an ancient Mayan tribe bursting through the jungle as they hunt for their food.

The peaceful village is marauded and plundered by a hostile neighboring tribe intent on capturing the men and women alive so as to sell them as sacrificial lambs slaughtered and beheaded to appease the Gods.

The costuming is true to Mayan history as are the body tattooing and ornamenting.

The cities built for the film are of a grand scale and you cant help but become immersed in the surroundings as if it were the present.

Dont let the subtitles scare you off...it works.

See this !

I agree Nomad. Great epic. I'm sorry that this film did not get better recognition.

Okay this movie was probably thee most violent movie I have ever watched! I was dumbfounded by this. I suppose I haven't watched enough action films but the reason I wanted to see it was to learn something about Mayan culture. Do you think this movie depicted Mayan culture truthfully? It doesn't matter much because the point of the movie was the costuming, setting, special effects (you can't tell me those gruesome fighting scenes aren't considered special effects). Everything was absolutely incredible. The seeming audacity of producing this film left me speechless. Which is why I don't have more to say about it at this time.

I watched it a couple of days ago. It definitely reeled me in from the first second. The blood/gore scale is off the charts, and too much of it was gatuitous, imo.

The ending sucked
