It's bad when something's left on the track and a semi-trailer's worse than a cow. We had a few like that here, especially car drivers derailing trains - one even went to jail for it. We also get occasional bits of rail left unbolted by maintenance crews, and train drivers missing red signals who put their engines into the path of oncoming passenger expresses. I don't think we've had two trains sharing the same length of track in a long time, not since the signaling was automated.
It's still a lot safer than driving.

Sounds bad. No mention of this on the radio over here. They're concentrating on major world news such as Paris Hiltons 2nd day in prison.

Well yes, SlipStream, it's because people are wallies. The last person here to interrupt a train in the course of its duty was a young lady listening to her GPS navigator. It told her to turn left just as she went through the first barrier of a crossing and she did. She then drove along the track into the oncoming train. Either we can blame the designers of the advanced railway or we can recognize idiocy when it rears its head.
Did you hear about the guy in the car-built-like-a-tank who spent all night porning with his online sex-buddy, drove himself to sleep the next morning and bounced down the embankment onto the mainline track a couple of minutes before the express came through at 120 miles an hour? He was on his cellphone by then asking the police what he should do to prevent a disaster.
I could go on if anyone likes.

This is such an awful story, the pictures really do look bad!
My thoughts go out to all the families and friends of the victims and everyone else involved in this tragedy!
