I was out at lunch time today (no nasty engine revers today!). Some guys were out cleaning windows and I walked round the ladder rather than under it.
I was just wondering if any of you lot are superstitious??
I am but only when it comes to magpies!!

Pinkchick not walking under an open ladder makes perfect sense just for the saftey factor, not because of superstitions.

No, because there's no need to be.

I used to have a black cat and he always crossed my path...hmmm maybe that explains the bad luck I had when I had him???:wah:
NO, I'm not superstitious...think its fun to hear some of the crazy ones people have though. I have a friend/ex-coworker that used to tell me about the ones her mom believed it...the main one that sticks in my mind "If you keep shoe-boxes in your house, it will mean you will never re-marry or marry"...that might be classified as an old wives tale...not sure of the difference???

I don't consider myself too superstitious.
Friday the 13th is a lucky day for me.
Black cats are lucky.
I do open umbrellas in the house.
I've put hats on the bed/shoes on the table with no bad kharma.
I won't walk under ladders and if I spill salt, I throw some over both shoulders.
If a friend and I speak the same word at the same time, I have to say "spook" and we hook fingers and make a wish.
I still make wishes when turning my necklace clasp around.
If my friend and I are walking side by side and a pole is about to come between us, she will move so we both pass on one side. So the friendship isn't broken.
Same with knives. Someone gave me a pocketknife once and I had to give them a penny so it wouldn't sever our friendship.
I wish on stars.

Hey RG - I've never heard of making a wish when you turn your necklace around:-6

That was the thing when I was in school, PinkChick. I've done it ever since. In fact I don't feel right if I don't do it.

I've never heard of the hats on the bed/shoes on the table one. I bet a mother made that one up!
I've never heard the knife/penny one either.
I've learned something new already today!:D

Perhaps subconsciously you knew they would try to look down your shirt if you walked under the ladder.
Next time show a little compassion for the working man.

There is an Aussie member of a cycling forum I read who absolutely despises magpies. Apparently they like to pester cyclists wearing bright colours.
I have one oddball habit that I assume may fall under the heading of superstition. When running a yellow light in the car, I have to brush my right index finger against the roof as if making a hash-mark. When on the bike, I have to tap the handlebar. I've been doing it since I was a teenager, and it makes me damned uncomfy if I don't do it.
Can't think of any others off-hand, but I certainly don't say "Candyman" three times as I look in a mirror. Why ask for trouble?
