Who are your closest friends and why?

I have Lea, who I've known since we were both about 12. We've gone our separate ways a few times but we're done with that now and we've always managed to find each other again. If anyone knows almost everything about me, it's her, which is kind of scary. We've been through school, broken hearts, family problems, winnings and losses, death and a lot more together. She's not PC and neither am I so I don't have to watch what I say with her which is nice. We have 20 years of inside jokes and can crack each other up at any given time. We each know how the other one thinks and can finish each other's sentences. We know each other's imperfections and faults and we love each other in spite of them. I couldn't do without her. And wouldn't want to.

I have Lauren who is like a piece of my heart. She's 26 now but I've known her since she was almost 17. She knows probably as much about me as Lea, maybe even more. I have complete trust in her and would do just about anything for her. She has class and she's loyal and I appreciate that. She's incredibly smart too but her kindness is what I love most about her. It's been hard watching her grow up because I want to protect her from everything and I've been afraid of growing apart but you can only do so much of that without butting in. We've been through rotten boyfriends and her schooling and false friends and a lot of life's ills as well as all the happy times. I'm so proud of her that sometimes I think I'll burst my seams. She told me once she likes the person she's become and that she wouldn't be that person if not for me. That has to be one of the most meaningful things anyone's ever said to me. I won't forget it.

I have Betty Ann. In some ways, she's like a mother to me. She's in her 50s and has a son and she's one of the most "with it" people I've come across. I met her in animal rescue. She's down to earth which I love about her and is one of the most gentle, kindhearted people I know. Yet she kicks @$$ when it's called for, especially when it comes to animals and I wholly respect her for that. She's loyal and such a good and true person. We have a good time no matter what we do; just being together is all that matters. We've had some crazy times. And I treasure each moment spent with her.

I have Shelly. She's my "artsy, intellectual" friend. She's traveled the world and I love to hear about her experiences with other cultures. She loves art as I do and we have a lot of talks about that and about politics (even though we often disagree) and the world at large. She's my connection to something bigger than this rathole town we live in. She paints murals on her walls and like me, is always creating beautiful things. I am her petsitter and when she and her husband go on trips, I get to stay in their pretty house and be luxurious while I take care of their cat and dogs. She also helps me over the rough spots when I get too down. And even though there's a considerable age difference, she treats me as an equal.

So there's my little circle of friends.

Tell me about yours. :)

My wife Cindy, No matter how stupid drunk I get she is always there to hold my wallet so I don't lose it. She is such a sweety. Strange though, I'm always surprised by the amount of cash I have spent on those nights.

I have a couple of really good friends from school; Nicky and Becky and although we don't see each other as often as we would like, I always know they are there for me if I need them. Then there is Charlotte who I have known since we were about 2 or 3 and we see each other quite often, always have a laugh with each other and now our boyfriends get on great as well :)

Then I have a couple of mates I lived with while at uni, Lucy and Penny, Lucy is my best friend in the whole world and I can tell her anything at all, we love to have a glass of wine, some nice cakes and just talk about everything and anything!

so there are my friends :-4
