I just hate spraying chemicals all over me. Can't figure what's worse, mosquito bites or toxic waste entering my internal organs through my pores.

I have been bitten by a mosquito maybe 3 times in the last dozen years. They can smell the meanness in my blood and they stay away. The ones that did bite me were huge nightmarish insects, and they all dropped dead soon afterwards. I'm not kidding by the way. I don't know what it is, I make my little jokes, but they just don't bite me anymore.

Don't eat bananas. The potassium in your system attracts them. Honest.

DD, I just bought an item called "Bug Off" by Stinger in Cost Cutters. It's a wrist band for kids but fits adults (stretchy thing like a bracelet..no deet or toxics. Unfortunately it has citronella in it. But it also has lemongrass.
Hi Kathy, that sounds like a great idea. Being relatively new to USA and still not familiar with some products. Whats wrong with citronella? I heard that deet has been linked with cancer. :-6

There are few creepy-crawlies that I really detest... I'm fine with snakes, spiders, bees... I try my best to avoid mosquitos, however.
The most effective compound is DEET is N, N-diethyl meta-toluamide and it should be used sparingly and with as little skin contact as possible.
There are a few precautions I take to avoid mosquitos, such as not eating certain foods as Koan suggested ie. bananas, other sweet fruits and nuts... and avoiding certain colours of clothing such as bright colours (especially blue and yellow). Instead, stick to neutral, light colours such as khaki. You should also avoid wearing perfumes, cologne, scented soap and shampoo... I also wear netting (soaked in permethrin) sometimes when it's unavoidable. I've also read that thiamine is disagreeable to pregnant mosquitos. It needs to be in your system for several weeks in order to be effective, however.

Maliathon.
It will peel the paint on your car and kill the neighbors cat but it works on skeeters.
The mosquito is Minnesotas state bird.
