Or since he is guilty of the desecration of another soul he could spend his last days contemplating words that might offer genuine remorse for his actions or some subtle gift of sincere thought to offer the family for his transgression.

The true American big, hard guy - laughing in the face of death. What absolute c*ap! Bravado, Dutch courage, "kiss my ass, Governor!", anything you like - the blokes on Death Row have seen and heard it all before. They're gonna die, and don't they know it! It doesn't impress in the least. It's exactly the same when somebody gets life in this country - as sentance is passed, they'll turn, look directly into the face of the relatives whose lives they've destroyed, and laugh out loud. It's as phoney as a $9.00 bill.
