I think you could start by just picking a certain amount a month to save, then as your pot gets bigger you can slowly up the amount. its up to you! You can do it:-6

are you working or is this money you are not adding to? If you are working put half in the bank and spend the other half.
If you have a credit card put it into a small bowl, fill with water and put in freezer, then when you need to buy something on credit... you have time to think it over while things thaw out... hmmm if memory serves me your young maybe you do not have a credit card ok with your impulse to spend do not ever get a credit card hehehehe

Are you like a helpless monkey unable to keep yourself from reaching for the bright bobble down in the tube even when you know your hand will be trapped there and the hunter will return to kill you?
PT Barnum said there was a sucker born every minute. He was right.
You need to focus on your goals, write them down along with all of the necessary information such as dates (when do you want to be in NY?) and costs involved. Put the 2 together and make a plan to accomplish, set a goal.
Pssst Scrat, the kid is only 17...

I don't have one but what a brilliant idea! Could always leave it in a bowl of hot water though, that would be me. :wah:

The job market is rough, but sometimes you have to do something you wouldn't wish your worst enemy to have to do. Here is the formula for saving money; I could make millions off of this little secret if I bothered to copyright it: Income coming in has to be greater than income going out.

You *said* you couldn't find anything you wanted to do - but what you want to do is extremely limiting. Don't sit on your arse and whinge because you can't do exactly what you want to do. Most other people work even though whatever they do might not be their first choice of job. Do something else in the interim, before you start the work you really want, and make some money doing it. WRT your debt problems - so pay 15% of all that you earn (net, if you know what that means) into a savings fund, so that a) you can't spend it, and b) when you've a real need, you've got at least some sort of reserve accumulated.

Instant gratification versus having a goal. You always say your dream is to come to New York....... Make it happen. Imagine yourself 12 months up the road with 6,000.00. I offered to help you, months back. You never replied.
" I like money, I have some in a jar, on top of my refrigerator.... Id like to have more of it...." Who said this? Adam Chandler, in The Wedding Singer
I love this........:wah: Follow through baby.... Make your dreams come true. No one can do it but you:-4

Music Lover... This place has gotten so big... replys get lost. I dont think you are an ignorant pig.... I do wonder sometimes when I read your posts.. Do you have any guidance from anyone? I had written to you that I am originally from New York. , and could sort of give you the " Low Down" so to speak. Have you finished school?? You have to get your prioritys in order.
New York is majorly, majorly expensive. That is why this Yankee is living in Virginia. Cost of living is more than 50% less. But it is THE MOST EXCITING PLACE IN THE WORLD. The diversity is incredible.. And at the risk of being corny..... " IF YOU CAN MAKE IT THERE>>>>> YOU CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE.
