Mission Impossible: Tony Blair solves Palestine.

To quote Robert Fisk's scream of outrage today, "Blair actually believes - in what must be a record act of self-indulgence for a man who cooked up the fake evidence of Iraq's 'weapons of mass destruction' - that he can do good in the Middle East".

This thread is set aside to interpret TB's words over the next few months. They'll need interpreting, he's good at weaseling.

To answer Robert Fisk, though - yes, he does believe he can do good in the Middle East. That's what ten years as Prime Minister does to people, it leaves them utterly divorced from reality.

Anyone who sees a good link and posts it here gets a point. Anyone who makes an intelligent comment gets two points. Points are cumulative and not transferrable. Prizes will be awarded at the final settlement of the Palestinian Question or when Iran gets bombed into submission by anyone at all, whichever happens first.

I see. You are either too god to bandy words with the riff raff that haunt this forum or you fear you are not up to the level of badinage required to mix it.

Will you post if we promise no welsh jokes? In view of the Scottish one that has taken his old job best to leave it alone.

What is surprising is none of the mainstream media seem to pick up on the obvious flaw in appointing him. Maybe I'm cynical but if you want to keep the war on terror alive and ensure the aggrieved side won't talk to you well can you think of a better appointment?

Should there not be a prize for accurately forecasting Bliars removal from this job?

Who can remove him? He's not answerable to anyone at all, given the way he was appointed.

I wonder what Gordon Brown thinks of the appointment. Surely there isn't a person on the planet that can solve the problem of the Middle East, and if there was, I hardly think Tony Blair would be that person. I think Spot is right. He has been cocooned from reality for too long if he thinks he can make a difference and get those who despise him to listen. The formation of a Palestinian state would improve things if he could pull it off, but it won't solve the problem.
