I've just heard that my neighbour aged 15 is being bullied online for his spelling (he's dyslexic for ffs)

This is a kid who's polite

This is a kid who regularly helps out neighbours & wont take payment

This is a kid who excels at sport

This is a kid who's done a firewalk (that takes guts, more than can be said for the pathetic piece's of crap picking on him)

I'm being serious here Spot, at the end of the day does it really matter if your spelling or apostrophe is in the right place, is that how we judge people now, i'm really annoyed. This is a good kid getting picked on.

Absolutely anyone can be bullied about anything at all. A bully explores around the edges, tries a dozen likely buttons, finds the ones which get a reaction and homes in. You didn't feel bullied by what I said, partly I suspect because you knew I'm not really trying to bully you but mainly because it's not one of your buttons and you know I've never gone exploring for one with you so I'm not a threat.

But.

Granted that bullies exist, the people who react are the ones who get their attention. You might try explaining that to the lad if you feel it's your place to try, and if he doesn't mind.

I spent time when the children were younger getting them to understand this. It's worth the effort and it's not obvious.

There's an ethical problem associated with this. Do you duck and let the bully find someone else, or do you mirror it round and destroy the bully? I'd go for the second of those but it's an ugly business. What you'll not succeed in often is transforming the bully into a social creature whichever technique you adopt.

True, what people think of my spelling is not one of my buttons & i cant see any reason why you would look for others.:-4

Who's doing it Buttercup? Probably other damned kids. Just because they can.

Jerks. There's someone who either was or is still here who constantly corrects people's spelling and grammar even though she gets it wrong sometimes too. And she's an adult. It's most annoying.

Its a group of people the same age, i think it sparked off because this kid just done a firewalk, it was in the paper, jealousy may be playing a part here.

As for people correcting my grammar here, thats just not something that pushes my buttons so they tend to not bother. If i remember correctly someone told me to use a spell check two years ago - i just said, if my spelling upsets you - dont read my posts, easy :p

Do we still have spelling police? I thought they all left?

Anyway its pathetic to pick on a kid thats dyslexic & for others to jump in on it makes it all the worse. Some of the comments have been damned hurtful but my daughters know who's at the centre of it all now :sneaky:

As sad as it is, look how many so-called adults we have seen do this. Why would children be any different? :-1
