I have found that religion can have a big impact on the long term success of a relationship. It may be a valid consideration. My ex-husband used to ridicule my spirituality as he was against all religion. This is an extreme scenario but it can be very important to some people. On the other hand, it can make for interesting debate as long as both parties respect the others beliefs.

Some very good points. I agree that religion can be a force for bringing and keeping people together or the opposite. It is truly a shame.

There is a "formula" for a successful relationship. If you and your partner can agree on 4 basic areas, you have a good chance for success: Religion, children, money, and in-laws. How accurate this formula is I don't know, but it makes sense. On the other hand, my grandparents were married for 65 years. My grandmother passed away about a year ago, still totally in love with my grandfather. He was a die-hard church-goer. In church every Saturday, constantly ministering to people. My grandma, however, rarely went to church. She had very different views on it, and I can probably count on one hand the number of times she went. And usually, that was only for significant occasions. A funeral, memorial, or when my grandpa was re-baptized. It was pretty interesting to see two people so diametrically opposed in their beliefs who loved each other so much.

The Bibical view is that we are to be equally yoked as far as going into a marriage.
However Christians are not to divorce thier non christian partner if they are willing to remain in the marriage. Don't remember where the verses are that deals with this as far as location.
My wife is a younger christian then myself.
She has started reading the old testoment. I tried to get her to read the new testoment. It is kind of cute how she wants to start from the beginning.
