Much of it is already happening Minks. There is an example of face cream, and how 8 different countries are involved in everything from making the jar, the lid, the ingredients and the distribution and marketing. That's just some of the business part of Globalization.

Well Fear it I dunno? It would be rather sad to see individuality go out the window granted on a grander scale of course I suppose it would mean what makes canadians canadians isn't going to matter anymore cause we would just be main stream plastic container makers just like Germans, Hungarians and say Koreans. I guess ok yes I do fear it, we should not loose who we are.
Am I on the right path there?

There is no right or wrong path. The subject has, is, and will continue to be a subject of controversy for some time. It's one of those situations where there are many positves and many negatives. It will affect some people in a positive way and others in a negative fashion. Meanwhile, much of it, particularly in the tech and business arena is already happening.

Okay i will answer this on a serious note. With the European Alliance and NAFTA i think we are already heading in the direction of Globalization. I also feel that is why some are trying to give amnesty to illegal immigrants. Possibly for the beginning of an North American alliance. Do I fear it? I really don't know what to fear about it. Lon do you have reasons to fear it, and do you feel we should have reasons to fear it?

No, I don't really fear it. Much of it in the business world is already happening and will continue whether we like it or not. I am ambivilent about some of it, but for the most part feel positive about some of the good things that can come about from it. It may be the only way that we ALL can survive through the 21st Century and beyond.

A North American Alliance oh YZ, I hate to go here but I really think that is the American dream not ours. NAFTA and your Homeland security are going to be the very ruin of that dream. The USA does not have to have the same rules as good old Canada when it comes to some issues with shipping for starters, and my experience is that I have 12 hoops to jump through to ship where as the USA gets away with 4. It is not mandatory for an american company to send me any NAFTA docs but I can't get my shipment across the border without one. Homeland security won't let me ship without a number of other docs while the USA can do without them.
How is NAFTA working then if there are 2 sets of rules?
This is bad news for small companies as well, the complications for cross border shipping is so complex many are exporting over seas, many are exporting direct to Mexico. It's just made a very large rift in the whole process.
Sure maybe we are getting a break on duty but at what cost? And if we can export for elsewhere with less complications it may compensate for the duty breaks.
This is a sad sad direction to take and with it happening there won't be globalization here in the Americas.

Hey minks, I know what you mean. But not as many people want to blow you guys up. Now the funny part is you can send anything to Mexico ans Mexico can virtually walk stuff across the border but our friendly hat of America (Canada) has to jump through hoops. Doesn't make much sense, but I have not met many here, in fact haven't heard of a soul who likes it, including myself.

Ok I am talking to myself here in this thread cause I like the topic...
K back at you Lon, do you think we could attain globalization? I mean with the wars going on I think not there. With the differences in Religious beliefs and cultural beliefs I think not. With the differences in our governing powers I don't think so either, those seem like a lot of reasons for it to not work. Fear maybe just a little because it may cause more strife in the world than we already have?? What say you?
I did read a bit on it to get a better understanding and I had to laugh at a picture of KFC in Kuwait. Is that the america's power getting a foot hold, or is that Kuwait wanting to be like america? And where is the equavalence coming our way, I mean sure I have a flafal house or 2 here in my city, but it's not a huge giant corporate chain it's a mom and pops venture to expose us to their tastes. In my uneducated eye it's not working both ways, it's looking like a big power pushing through everywhere... No not just the america's. I think on the Euro as well why isn't the UK accepting it? Sure it's not a power house coming in demanding everybody use the Euro, but its proof that kind of unity isn't going to capture everybody.
Ok there we got something going here.

I have been avoiding this topic because I love it, and once I start I will get sucked in, but I can hold back no more.
For me the business aspect of Globalization is about spreading the wealth around the world by getting rid of rules and laws that prevent markets from developing. The West has benefited immensely with freedom of movement of product and business. Why can’t the rest of the world?
Take Africa as an example. For years now for the poorer countries of Africa the west has poured aid into these countries with little overall development benefit, why? Because they need trade and business not hand outs. The number one investor into Africa now in the world is China. They are developing trade and business with countries that no one else wants to deal with. However with trade will develop business, and economics, then as people start working and earning livings, comes social development.
Africa has formed a group called the Assembly of the African Union, who has the African Economic Community. The stated goals of the organization include the creation of free trade areas, customs unions, a single market, a central bank, and a common currency thus establishing an economic and monetary union. When they eventually reach their goals Africa will no longer be the nation as we see it today, but a workforce of 900,000,000 people.
China, a country closed off to the rest of the world with little trade or foreign interaction, quickly becoming (if not already there) a world financial superpower. (one third of the US dept is owned by China) (they are basically funding the Iraq war for the USA).
Russia & Eastern Europe, developing at an astronomical rate.
The European Union: Do you know that this is the longest period of peace in Europe? World War 1 & 2 was fought on the ground of countries that now share the same currency.
I think it is great, and living in Europe, I love being part of the EEC. The whole world is opening up, and I think it is great.

Mike you can spread the wealth can you keep everybody wealthy?
Will it benifit Africa as an example? Will they reciprocate? Will they accept our kind of wealth? Will we accept theirs?, what have they got to give us?, and will we only be setting up to "carry" them along? I am not being a negative nelly here or pointing fingers at Africa, merely using them as an example.

Micro loaning has been extremely successful in some African nations. You could for instance make a loan as small as $500.00 to an individual who could very realistically start a small business in Mali or Ghana. Not one loan has defaulted since its global inception.

I would have to say, yes. Money makes money. Recessions and Depressions only take place when money stops moving and generating. Economies will shift and physical manufacturing will move to where cheep labour is, but it gets replaced with other higher tech industries and financial services. It does not take away from one market to move to another, it just becomes more global.

do the smaller 3rd world countries understand this? I mean take on a far smaller scale for instance... here in this city we have a corner of downtown, homeless men stand there and await construciton companies or trades companies to come along and pick them up for daily work. One day a whole pile of work boots were donated to these so called desperate to work men... the majoritiy of them sold them for dope money. Again I am not being negative or saying this will happen but do the less fortunate understand the end value of this? It seems a huge undertaking in my opinion more than just share the wealth.

It is not an overnight solution to any problems, and there will be politics and probably other wars slowing it down, and there will always be numbers of people to will never benefit and will loose out. But over all¦ countries where people felt they need to escape from and move west for a better life, can now stay in their own country they love because there is a future. Look at India, how it is developing.
Heck, my own country, Ireland. There use to be a saying,’ Irelands greatest export was it’s own people’. Now kids can grow up and be sure of a future that does not involve packing up and moving to America or wherever because of what use to be a 23% unemployment rate.
These are just my opinions, I am sure there will be plenty of people out there who would have an opposing viewpoint on this, but to answer the original question, it does not scare me, I welcome it.
