Neffy's Pheasy thread got me thinking. For those of you living far from home, what things do you miss the most about your own country?

Will you come back & if not - why not?

How do you get over bouts of being homesick?

I miss walking down the street and feeling the desert breeze.

I miss my family.

And lots of things.

You just keep busy to get over these "bouts." It remains inside, while you wait to return. You always return, it is home. And the feeling never leaves you.

24 days for me now. It has been more than three years....:)

6. Not being asked if I'm Australlian ... every single day :)

8. Not getting told off for driving on the wrong side of the road .... daily :)

9. Oh and did I mention Family :-3

Would I got back .... yes.

What keeps me going and helps me get over homesick, I'll show you...

So are you just on a short contract to get it up & running or have you committed to living in the USA for a long period of time?

We are here to stay. Currently on a visa, but the next application will be for a Green Card. Can't see us returning to UK to live - but you never know :-4

Excuse my ignorance here but does a green card make you a full citizen & does that mean your classed as an American?

Definition I found:

The popular name for the Alien Registration Receipt Card, which is given to individuals who become legal permanent residents of the United States. While the card was once green, hence earning the nickname, it is presently pink. The card serves as a U.S. entry document, enabling permanent residences to return to the U.S. after temporary absences. You can apply for the green card anywhere, but you can only actually receive the green card inside U.S. borders. In addition, the card and the benefits that come along with it are permanent, therefore you cannot lose it unless you abandon your U.S. residence or commit certain types of crimes. However, a new, updated green card must be applied for every ten years.
