I've got a question. Or maybe rather a question/vent.
Why is it that so many people who drink like to make it sound like they're doing some kind of forbidden drug or something that will impress everyone else? I see it on here and I see it in "real life" as well.
What's the deal with that?
And more importantly why do people like to brag/whine about being drunk or hungover? Who cares? If someone doesn't know when to stop then it's their own doing and I for one don't care if someone can't handle their booze.
It reminds me of being in my 20s and co-workers and friends would come slogging into work or call my house and moan "I'm SO hungover!" So, what's to be proud of about that? It's not impressive, it fact it's about the exact opposite IMO.
I don't get it.

Does anyone get it? Like you I remember doing that in my 20's. I guess people just like to make conversation.

If you go to the theatre you'll likely talk about how the play affected you next day, same thing really. You either like drinking or you dont. Its not about impressing people.

Firstly Red there is a certain amount of guilt associated with drinking for some people. Like they have misbehaved. Second is that often being drunk, or hung over is supposed to be an indicator of having had a wild and wonderful time... or a booming social life. Ive got some funny and raucous stories from my youth that involved being drunk. But my goodness, I grew out of that many moons ago.

I mention it out of conversation, not as a badge of honor or anything. I don't ever expect it to be earth moving conversation. It's just a passing thing.
Guilty.

I'm guilty too, the reason it does get mentioned is because if I do get to go out for a night, it is usually to a pub where I will be drinking. If I happen to mention that I have a hangover the next day, it certainly isn't for sympathy. I don't see it any different than people posting on their days/nights out, then posting on the 'how are you feeling today thread'.
I've learnt a very valuable lesson being here at FG, to not take things to serious, people will post whatever they want, if i don't like the threads i don't have to read them.

I think some people brag because they want to show they didn't spend the night sitting at home alone. Bragging usually comes from trying to show something about yourself that you think will get you that "nice job" nod.
And I think (because I'm all thoughtful, and stuff) that the hang-over bragging, is a mix between; "look how popular/cool I am... I drank my ass off", and that liitle slice of life that makes us want to share in our misery. People are rarely secretly sick.
Of course bragging about drinking alone is most likely a less vulnerable way to say, "I'm miserable and I need you to care enough to ask me why"

No, I just don't like drunk people. I find them a crashing bore at best. I don't care who drinks, it's when they get stupid that I get disgusted with them.
Most drinkers like similar company I find. Which is why you asked me if I was a teetotaler.

Please don't assume you know something about me. I did not say anything about being nice or not. Not all people who drink get drunk, I am one of those. My beef is with the ones who do, thinking it makes them a cooler more interesting person. Nothing could be further from the truth. And on forums when people are wiped and they can't type, can't spell, can't even form a cohesive thought, that's a prime example.
