Immy's birthday treat gone wrong!!

You may remember that I was really excited 'cos my hubby and my parents were treating me to a trip to London to see two shows - well this is what happened.
Friday - bright and sunny in South Devon, pack bag and go to train station looking forward to a trip to London with no worries about parking when we got there. At about 1.15pm the train gets into Swindon (approx half way) station, it's been raining and we'd been going slowly for a while due to water on the lines. We sit there for an hour then get told all trains cancelled due to flooding further on everyone off. Lots of people milling around station to be told no buses available, taxis only doing local trips 'cos roads are flooded, car hire places either flooded or all cars gone!
We decided to cut our losses and booked into a hotel for the night. Only two rooms left after us and when we went to get some food the hotel was stuffed with people who had been unable to travel. Patted ourselves on the back for making a sensible choice - missed seeing Les Miserables but nothing we could do.
Saturday - some trains running between London and Swindon as a shuttle service so got into London, found hotel - v. nice, spent some time looking round shops, got something to eat and saw the Lord of the Rings show which was brilliant I absolutely loved it (even hubby liked it!!).
Sunday - listening to the tv news travel still disrupted so decided to forget trains altogether and hired a car and drove home. Think this was a good choice, got home safe and dry(ish)
Moral to this tale - book all travel arrangements after St Swithens Day!!!!!
Although I lost out on 1 show and it cost us more money on hotel and car hire and the tickets I still had a great time. We were lucky that it wasn't our house flooded out and things could have been so much worse. But I'm not turning 40 again - it's too stressful!
