This is from 1971. I was 5. Can anyone who was around then tell me about this person? How he was looked upon and such?

http://www.forumgarden.com/forums/showp ... stcount=21 is an honest reflection of my opinion. Steal This Book is prophetic too, in the same sense. It's not a practical guide to living, it's a practical guide to thinking. It's also a hugely funny deliberate joke from cover to cover.Cochise as well as millions of youngsters in the balcony of learning were being dealt off the bottom of the deck. The Indians should have offed Jimmy Stewart in every picture and we should have cheered ourselves hoarse. Until we understand the nature of institutional violence and how it manipulates values and mores to maintain the power of the few, we will forever be imprisoned in the caves of ignorance.Damn right too.

I was hoping you'd reply to this thread, Spot. I am still reading the Wiki link...
How come we don't have people this "out there" today? Or do we and I'm not aware? Is our society more or less repressed now that it was then, do you think?
I'll have a better grasp on the questions I want to ask after I finish reading and give it some thought.

I got his other book, the one with the Bad word in the title. They mailed those books to you in brown paper wrappers..................It was sneaky getting to the mail before my mother each day.......:wah:
For someone who was 16 at the time, he was looked upon with a mixture of respect for saying things others didn't, shocked that he would say them, and a whole bunch of stuff. This was in the days, when even singing the MASH theme song would get you suspended. You never bucked the system. Ordering that book did.....
This was a look at the time, not a retro opinion.
