I played golf this morning with a Frenchman and we got to discussing our mutual dislike of NASCAR. He thought it was all about power and not finesse.
"Americans he said, have this obsession with powerful engines and are not into finesse". "American men for the most part, make love the same way, all power and no finesse". I never thought about it that way but I think he has a point.
Thousands and thousands of people drinking their beer and eating their corndogs and watching cars fore ever making left turns. Wham Bam, thank you Mam. Round and round and round and round. Boring!!!!

Siding with the French now are we?
I guess all the Formula cars have tiny little engines.
If you told me that NASCAR is a complete waste of fuel.....
Our fuel prices go up and up while these folks spend hours driving in circles then you may get an audience.
"The average NASCAR gets 4.5 miles per gallon and each race has
about50 drivers and there are about 40 races in the season.
They use over 200,000 gallons of gas in a year."
Speaking of power. Golf.
When should I lay up or go for the 380?
Power vs finesse.
The time I hit a triple eagle it was damn good.
Power or finesse? Or both?

Err! JD, Nascar stock motors are 5.375 - 5.866 Litres v8. Whereas Formula 1 engines are 2.4 Litre v8. Not that i'm geeky or anything.....

So Formula uses less fuel than Nascar?
It's still a waste of fuel regarding resources.
Don't get me wrong.
I love to watch formula racing.
My point is why the America bashing?

I checked with talk radio. We're allowed to like the French again. They have a new prime minister.

France is cool, like KB said, especially the women. So is America as well, and there are also many fine looking merican women ain't there? SO, come on France and America be friends and play nice, you can then join forces and pick on someone else, like I dunno, Portugal maybe, or what about New Zealand (far too quiet that bunch are, they are planning something)?
I'm not into NASCAR but the cars look pretty cool, annd they are always having mad crashes, more than Forumla One, so thats one up for them. France also has the tour de France, which is cool, cause its like a 3 week long drug party on wheels, pretty edgy stuff. Strangely enough many Americans win the tour, which means either they are great at cycling, or they love their drugs, or both, and I think you need to be good at both to win nowadays. :wah:

I wish Segoline Royale had won, she was one nice looking politican woman, they would have all been hitting on her in the g8 summits, she could have had them all running round in circles. Trust the French to choose the other one. :wah:

The Tour de France is easy. You only need one nut to win .
I just get the feeling sometimes, Lon that you prefer New Zealand over Cali.
Perhaps I'm envious.
And Acct. It's still not ok to accept the French. You heard that on a re-broadcast on Air America.

Formula 1 engines DO NOT get better gas mileage than NASCAR..........
Formula One Engines
The F1 engine is the most complex car of a current Formula One car. It consists of close to 5000 parts of which around 1500 are moving elements. When all of these elements are fixed together after 2 weeks of work it it can produce more than 750hp and reach more than 20,000 rpm. At its maximum pace the current V8 engines consume around 60 litres of petrol for 100km of racing.
60 liter = 15.850 323 141 gallon [US, liquid]
100 km = 32.3974 n.m. (US)
32.39 / 15.85 = 2.04 MPG
Where a NASCAR Nextel Cup engine averages about 4-5 MPG as stated by JD
Lon,
a day sitting on me arse drinkin a beer and watching roundy rounders beats a day chasing a little white ball, and having to PAY about $30 for the privilege!!
Besides NASCAR may not be a sport.... but.... It is a way of life.
And a lot of that life is giving back to their country and people less fortunate.
Here is a link to a few of the drivers charity sites.

I didn't actually say that Formula 1 engines use less fuel BTS, I was telling him the size of engines used! F1 cars are hand built dedicated racing machines, whereas Nascar are stock cars, and as such have to use (heavily modified) stock parts. To compare the two is crazy. they're like chalk and cheese.

BTW, of all the silly little picky arguments that us Euro types and Americans get involved in about our little cultural differences, (vive le difference people!) i think that this one about the mileage you can get from a NASCAR or a Formula One car has to be one of the all time silliest. We should all be ashamed of ourselves, still if thats all we have to argue about, thats actually quite encouraging.

Fair enough KB, they did have much better photographers in the 19th century alright. This Imac I got though, it can take pretty cool pictures, maybe I should try one of them. Hmmmn, anyway, moving swiftly along.
