say this to a co-worker, "I think you are stable and mature". It is considered ageism. I can tell someone I like their shirt, but I can not mention their pants for fear of harassment charges. People and their you can and can't says irritate the hell out of me.

Ageism?! That's stupid! PC creates imbeciles, IMO. I ignore it.

What part of stable and mature is considered ageism? I have met some very stable and mature 25 year olds. And have seen their exact opposite who were in their 50s and 60s

I can remember back before I met my husband, I was looking for a housemate to help me meet expenses. I was in my mid 40's and prefered a female who was my age or older. I was not allowed to say that in the ad, though, as it could be considered discrimination. So I was told I had to as for someone who was "mature". So, I was forced to wade through calls from kids saying "I am 20, but I am VERY mature." I felt I was wasting my time and their as I had no intention of even inviting them to live in my home, so why should I interview them?

Ah yes KB, the ol Harrassment hassle!!! I used to be in a mgmt position in a large Govt contracts company. And "they" were overly sensitive to there ever even being a hint of harrassment charges within their personnel! As the Govt was strict on harrassment, and if harrassment was found, they could withdraw contracts at their discretion. So every 6 or so months, myself and the rest of the mgrs had to attend a Harrassment avoidance training seminar! Every seminar seems to have a "new" list of added on no- no's that we had learn, and then in turn hold meetings with our respective depts and train our subordinates.
(It was, and is a never ending living list!!!)

Me telling the litle 18 year old girl up fron I like her legs, and would like them even more wrapped around my neck is harassment, even if she would gigle and tell me thank you. I wouldn't do it.
Me telling one of my guys that works in my department that I think he is a stable and mature man because at 26 he manages to work 12-14 hours a day, morning with a company that manages medical and other needs for the homeless, then comes and sells televisions and does any thing I ask of him without question, and is a good man to his girlfriend; that isn't harassment. Its stupidity. It is sad that rules like that have to be implemented because of the fear that someone will sue.

No, this was a training we went through. I haven't taken it yet, it is online, but one of the girls looked at me yesterday and said. "KB I think you are very stable and mature, and I like your pants." Then everyone looked at her and laughed. I thought my fly was open and I forgot to wear drawers or something. Then she filled me in on the course. I don;t get reprimanded at work, never have.

We just had a office wide training on this very subject. The fear of lawsuits has taken so much from the work place that you can't say or do much at all without fear of someone reporting you. I say screw that I will continue to be and say what I feel is right. I will continue to hug co-workers if they need a hug, I will crack jokes as I always do. Just not right at all.

Theyll turn us into robots if we let them.
Our workplace has enacted the LEAN program modeled after Toyotas success in become the #1 automaker.
In the last 2 months Ive been instructed to draw pictures of houses and attach shaded objects to the proper item such as a broom or pencil. In one meeting we arranged plastic eating utencils in the desired manner.
The point is or eventually will be....lets not be "too" individual. Sameness is good.
Its not a good direction.

Boy sacres me to death to see and hear this. I just sat there in the meeting and was shocked at what they were instructing us to act like. Example: never break eye contact with someone or look at them below the neck. What the heck is happening. You can't say that shirt, or blouse looks good on you. Instead you should say that's a nice shirt or blouse nothing more. Sorry I almost got up and left.
