Underneath all of the nonsense my primary objective in life is simply to learn how to be a better man.
My goals are to become wiser, patient, meaningful, enlightened, loving, thoughtful and most of all Id like to learn how to purposefully absorb lessons I find substantial that pass my way and make them directives in my life.
I fail miserably far too often but Ive changed and grown by leaps and bounds since I quit drinking. Ive made progress but Ive a long way to go. But thats what my life has become and Im comfortable with this.

I work out. I've taken art classes and still cannot draw a straight line. :wah:
Having kids has been one self improvement lesson after another though.

I have taken art classes and plan to take more, mostly painting but ceramics is on my do list. I am mostly self-taught in oils and acrylics. I know little of photography but that doesn't stop me from trying to tell a story with my camera. For years and years I have written (albeit some probably bad) poetry and many short stories and I devour classic poetry. I am currently studying middle eastern dance. (ie: bellydance) I am always trying to learn more about the Arts and other cultures and I will happily talk to anyone who wants to pass on their knowledge to me. I am unable to travel at this point but I still try to learn about other places in the world that interest me. In spite of my vernacular and rough vocabulary, I enjoy studying language and adding new and unusual words to my list.
I have a love of music and play a bit of harmonica but one of my aims is to take up bluegrass fiddle. I may never do it and if I do I may be hopeless but it's there for me to try just the same.

At work I am taking on new responsibilties and learning about Health and Safety legislation and bringing this to employees in a people freindly way...making it fun !
At home I'm trying to learn more DIY stuff now that I have to rely on my own skills. It may not look truly professional but I've seen worse !
I am desperately trying to give up smoking AGAIN and walking more to get fitter. I also need to ride my bike and go swimming.
Part of practising Buddhism is to study, study, study....hard at this time of the year when you want to be outside all the time.....but I'm persevering.

I am going for the weight management, and some fitness training. Not fitness to run marathons, or lift weights, but just to be in better shape in my "old" age. My Doctor reccomended aqua therapy because of my arthritis.
I am also going back to my first love..reading. I seemed to have gotten away from it, but find I am enjoying it much more. Have discovered a couple of new favorite authors, and re-discovered some old ones.
One more thing I am doing is starting to use the internet more for exploring...learning about new things. I've found some interesting websites about science, and other things I have been interested in learning more about.

I was in college studying art and taking all kinds of classes for that subject. But it seemed that the only thing improving was my art skills and not me. So I dropped out for a while to go and get a job and find a better place to live. So now I'm just sketching and doing other classes that aren't at a college. I think I may go back to school next year sometime.

I am going to the Y now. The office pays for more than half of it so it was an opportuniy I couldn't refuse. I enjoy the exercse. I went a couple of years ago to the gym, which was free to law enforcement, but had to quit when I got sick.
I feel better when I go.
I am working on a quilt and waiting my time out until I can retire from work and do something more fun.
